It's been a busy month. Maybe there's a couple people who need a chat tonight?
Fortunately, there's a circle of chairs, with drink and cake.

Re: Millitime power!
"Then I hope he felt badly enough about it to let the insubordination pass this once."
Re: Millitime power!
Sonya leaned back in the chair, her words carrying an underlying anger that she wasn't sure would ever settle. "Also I had five weeks enforced paper work because of my injuries-arguably a trade off."
One of the reasons she was so relieved to be giving a clear all by the doctor.
Re: Millitime power!
He nods, watching her.
"You do look better."
Re: Millitime power!
"There was a memorial service some weeks ago, to honor those who'd fallen." She took a deep breath, partially because she could, and because the memory still left a mark. "I..I have to confess, part of me didn't want to attend, I couldn't..half of my platoon was killed in the war. I wasn't sure I could face their families, knowing what I knew and how the men might've still been alive if we took action sooner."
If they'd been better prepared, if they had a been better suited. Deep down, Sonya was aware that no one knew if they'd make it out alive, but a part of her wondered-hoped-that the casualty list would've been shorter if they did. How could she face the surviving family members knowing that?
Re: Millitime power!
"That", he reminds her, "wasn't in your power. And some of the survivors may be survivors because of you."
Re: Millitime power!
She hated the 'what-ifs': they were distracting and a waste of energy, but they kept coming. "I did attend the memorial, and I'm glad I did, but I kept silent the entire time, even though they gave me the option to speak. I was worried that if I said even one word, everything would come out." And that was the last thing people wanted to hear when in mourning.
Re: Millitime power!
Cadfael nods.
"Perhaps that was wise. There are better times and places for everything to come out."
Re: Millitime power!
Re: Millitime power!
"I hope you didn't do your ribs further damage", he says with a glance at them that's more involuntary than expecting to see anything.
Re: Millitime power!
Something that was both annoying and flattering at the same time. Plus, no one called her crazy anymore.
Re: Millitime power!
"I know all too well how it can chafe for an active person to be limited", he says briskly. "But I'm glad you were sensible about it."
Re: Millitime power!
Re: Millitime power!
"Has it ever come to that?"
Re: Millitime power!
Just as well. Even when a busted leg she doubted she'd stay by if she could help it. "I never liked clinics..the sounds from patients." And being confined if she could help it.
Re: Millitime power!
"Yes", he agrees quietly. "People in pain are never easy to listen to."
