Fireworks

Someone, possibly Bar gave William fireworks and he's out by the beach with a cooler full of drinks and snacks as he lets them off. Fireworks have gotten a lot safer and prettier since his time. There are blue, red bursts, stars, he didn't know they could do proper stars.

He has a huge selection to try and the night is clear and the view over the lake is glorious. At times, he sings a few patriotic songs, the works of Stephen Foster predominate.

(OOC: Up late but I wanted to mark certain there were some fireworks. Let off some, join the party or enjoy the lovely night by the lake.)

Jehan Prouvaire recognizes the man who was singing that...song about Enjolras.

"Happy fourth of July," he says, grinning at the red burst in the sky.

"Happy Fourth, there are drinks in the ice box,"

William recognizes Jehan as one of the Frenchman but can't recall his name and waves towards the food and drinks as there's a fountain of stars.

Jehan wanders over to the box, and looks inside idly, before pulling out an American beer (he's never had it before, never having been tempted, but surely this holiday is the occasion for it), and flopping down on the sand.

"Are these fireworks traditional?"

"Yes, if not fireworks, lettin' off guns or somethin', these are loads better than the ones at home which are just rockets if that,"

The beers are good, William's enjoying one.

"We didn't have these at home, either," says Jehan, staring at a shower of golden stars. Fireworks are very gaudy, unapologetically cheerful, and delightful. Jehan approves. "Where in America are you from?"

"Out West, Arizona Territory,"

These ones are impressive and a little strange, the next one somehow looks like various flags flying together.

"It's a desert out there, right? I've read descriptions--it sounds beautiful."

[not_his_pa]

"Not all desert but a lot of it. There are mountains with copper near Bisbee. I love ridin' out into the quiet."

"Ah, you like horses?"

[not_his_pa]

"I'm a cowboy, they're my life but yeah, I do. I work and sort of run the stables here."

"I've heard much of cowboys," says Jehan, "mostly through movies I've seen here. But I'm afraid I don't know what a cowboy does."

"My family, well me, my mother and younger brother own a small plot of land and raise cattle. That's all being a cowboy means, handlin' cattle."

"Ah," says Jehan. "I've had very little to do with cows. I've lived in cities my whole life."

"Then you've eaten 'em."

[vive_lavenir]

"True! Though I don't suppose I've learned anything about their personalities that way."

[not_his_pa]

"They're big, stupid and get lost easily. They don't mean any harm but don't want 'em runnin' at you."

"Do you raise them for meat, or for milk, or both?" Jehan has very little idea about American cattle-farming.

"Mainly meat, we get some milk from the cows but not enough to sell it."
