Jay wanders in from his door looking comfortingly rough - cut off shorts, no shirt, no shoes and a week's worth of stubble.

He grabs a shaving kit and a straight razor from the bar and vanishes into the bathroom, reemerging a few minutes later looking clean and content.

You can finally him sitting on the back step with a bottle of beer, cleaning and sharpening the razor.

"Not yet. I was at the first fight day but... I was in the wrong headspace. Shouldn't have joined in."

"Oh, I hope it didn't end too badly."

"Badly enough I owe some people apologies."

"That sucks but most people here are good about accepting apologies."

He nods. "All I can do is try. Sam seemed to understand at the time."

"Wilson, the one running things? He seems nice."

"Yeah." Jay nods. "He's pretty well versed in the shit I was going through at that point."

"Good to know and being out on the boat is helping?"

"Yeah. Yeah, it is." He nods, considering. "I don't know if it's time alone or just taking the pressure off myself but it's helping."

"I sometimes forget what its like to be fully alone but I do have a room to my door to shut," Also he's never actually known that, he grew up surrounded by so many people.

Jay nods. "I was an only child and then on my ass on the streets. I came up alone so I find the quiet reassuring. I don't do crowds of people all that well."

"I can see that, its good to have a place to be alone but I'd find it weird to be in a place without anyone nearby,"

That wouldn't feel safe.

"Each to their own." Jay shrugs. "I can't walk through a crowd without tracking everyone for potential threats."

"That would get tiring."

"It does." He nods. "That's part of why I find time alone refreshing."

"Then its really good that you have that big space down in the garage when you're here. Do you have someplace like that in your world?"

"Couple of safe houses. Nothing serious. And I just give away one of the nicer ones. Maybe I'll set something up when I'm done in Cambodia."

"How are things with you and Toby?"

"Good, everything's pretty quiet which I like but I know it won't last too long."

"Worried it's the calm before the storm?"

"Yes, whenever something goes on, she always gets drawn into it. Which is good, she knows how to fix things but messy too."

"And you'll follow her to the gates of hell if needed." It's not a question because Jay knows. He claps Quentin on the back lightly. "You're a good man."

He shrugs and the tips of his ears go pink, "Probably already went there and I try to be."

Jay can't help but smile at that sweet flush and lets the tips of his fingers brush the nape of Quentin's neck as he withdraws his hand. "And I'm sure she appreciated it too."

"She did and didn't expect it either. I think she's learned by now that I'm not going anywhere."

"Can't get rid of you, huh?" Jay grins, leaning back and taking a sip of his beer.
