The circle of chairs is out. In the middle is a table with a wide selection of food, but most notably a big apple pie, the smell of which is wafting pleasantly across the bar.

Behind the circle, on the wall, is a large sign.

"If you want." Guppy smiles. "Or individual, or just free pie and a chat."

He pushes out a chair for her.

She looks at the chair, not sure if she wants to sit down or not.

"And you provide this to anyone here, free of charge?" And it includes pie?

"Yes, all free." Guppy says. "Though Alana and Sam are the actual therapists, Cadfael and I are just experienced in pastoral care."

"How very benevolent of you."

She definitely wants pie and wanders over to the table.

"You get a lot of clients?"

"Not always, but this is a good turnout." Guppy says.

"And I'm a doctor - it kind of comes with the territory, but also a long time ago the previous folks who ran Life Support helped me out, so I took it over when they left."

"I'm surprised you don't have more. I'd think pretty much everyone who end up here needs some kind of therapy."

Calling the kettle black, she is.

"Oh, it's been around a while, then?"

"You may well be right, though a lot of people don't like to admit it." Guppy says.

"I'm Guppy by the way. And yeah, it's been..." he thinks for a moment. "Well it was before my eldest was born that I went and he's nearly eight, so probably nine or ten years, on and off."

"Tess Mercer."

She cuts herself a slice of pie and then returns to the chair he offered, finally sitting down.

"You've been here that long?"

"Longer. Eleven and a half years, I'd say. Nice to meet you Tess."

"Good lord, what do you keep coming back for?" Tess can't imagine being around here that long. Then again, she's a mover.

"Well, I guess when I started I didn't have anyone home to talk to, and now I've got four children under eight and occasionally need a moment's peace?"

"Doesn't sound like you're talking too much to anyone at home now, either." Oh, Tess.

"I can understand needing a moment's peace, though."

"Oh I do, the oldest three are old enough to talk back."

"Under ten and over five is a good age. They're so curious."

"Definitely. Do you have kids?"

"Me? God, no."

Then she realizes that could just be more confusing.

"I looked after my brother for a while when he was little."

"Oh I see." Guppy nods. "Well my oldest Fry is as I said nearly eight, Coral is six, so they're at that nice age. Brooke is nearly four, and she's a terror at the moment, and Gil just turned two but he hasn't started doing the whole 'throw myself on the floor' thing yet."

"Fry, Coral, Gil, Guppy. Your family have a marine theme?"

It's kind of cute in that almost-too-cute kind of way.

"Yeah. In that we started and then we couldn't stop or each subsequent child might feel left out. But Fry's real name is Alexander, and Brooke's full name is Brooklyn, so if we do it by full names it's less noticeable."

Guppy gets eyed again.

"Please tell me he's not named after Alexander the Great."

"Definitely not, he's named after a childless uncle on my wife's side." Guppy says, grinning. "Fry was a pun on him looking like a small version of me which stuck."

"Good. That's a better reason."

She's finished her pie and now just sits there, looking around.

You know, I tried this once. Didn't do much for me."

"Some people find it doesn't." Guppy agrees. "Quite a few people just come for the food."

He pours more tea, offering her one.

"Anything particularly on your mind? Because Alana and Sam do one to one therapy if people need."

"Oh, I meant therapy in general."

She takes a cup.

"No, nothing I haven't already handled in my own way."

"Again, it's not for everyone." Guppy agrees. "We try and do activities sometimes for relaxation."
