The circle of chairs is out. In the middle is a table with a wide selection of food, but most notably a big apple pie, the smell of which is wafting pleasantly across the bar.
Behind the circle, on the wall, is a large sign.

There's no talk of fighting or killing: she figured he must've seen enough of that in his lifetime. On the other hand, she's genuinely eager to hear of his travels, the sort of stories that never got old. Only when she became a mother, they personally became more of a burden then something to be excited about; something that needed to be done, not something she ever really looked forward to.

"Oh yes", he agrees, with just a touch of that young man's excitement left in him. "To see the world was my main intent."

Not to mention they were hell on families; how much did she miss of Cassie's childhood because she was away for months at a time.

"The soldier's life was wearing by then", Cadfael says with a nod. "And I met a man who showed me another way."

Sure, Jax was alive now, had been for some 20 years, but he'd been retired for that long as well. She still needed his advice and guidance of course, but even now she hesitated to ask his involvement in SF. "Both the Secretary of Defense and the Army were so desperate that this not happen, that Earthrealm not be left vulnerable. They completely skipped over the rank of captain and promoted me to Major so I could have wider command."
Not that it mattered to her either way, but if it meant more influence and ability to defend Earthrealm, she didn't protest either. "When Cassie was growing up, I spent a lot of time checking her when she slept. I was so scared that an enemy would sneak in and hurt her or something worse, just to spite me and her father."
She never knew of course. All she ever wanted was her daughter to grow up with a normal childhood (or as normal as she could without her being around); not to grow up knowing the reasons for why her mother was worried or stressed, to grow up only fearing the imaginary monsters under the bed, not the real ones that could exist.

"It is always a danger, when our enemies have no scruples", he agrees regretfully. "But she grew up unharmed?"
no subject
"For the most part," That was as honest as she could get within the answer. "I don't suppose you've met her here? Short, blonde hair, blue eyes-always quick with a smart as remark," The last one was said with a resigned smirk. "She also answers to Cassie."
It just happened that her attitude was usually the first thing people noticed.

"Cassie", he says thoughtfully. "Perhaps, quite some time ago."

She hoped anyway.
"Then let me ammend what I said earlier, in that she's grown up relatively unharmed despite of what-or who-she's grown up with."
Actually, knowing Cassie, it very well could've all been 'in spite of'. "I just wish this place had shown itself earlier. Things...things may've been more smooth between us."
Without being fully aware, Sonya looked back towards the walls of the Bar. She hadn't seen Cassie in weeks, and while logically (or atleast the part that tried to remain logic) knew she'd be fine, the other side of her kept kicking up the darker scenarios.
She'd be fine. She and the crew were still in training of course: Cage loved Cassie too much to deliberately put her through any serious danger.

"Perhaps", he agrees. "But there is no telling what might have been."

Still, she would've found this place a life saver of a sorts. In this place, she wouldn't have to deal with her phone and the constant messages and emails from those on base asking her opinion or decisions. Back home, she would've missed birthdays and holidays due to being on Called in or deployed, but here, they could've done something small to make up for things.
Sonya never had her 'ex's flair for dramatics and large parties, but she always recalled Cassie's expressions when she was able to be there-until teenage rebellion turned to resentment.
She yelped when she felt a bite on her wrist-not exactly painful, but definitely sharp enough to get her attention. After enough trails and errors, she felt he actually learned that biting too hard caused injury, which was prone to making him stress out from smelling her blood. Now, he knew to bite only hard enough to get her attention. "Speaking of which..think this guy needs to be taken out. We'll talk sometime later"
She hoped atleast.

"I will very likely be here", he agrees. "Go, attend to your pet."
