It's sunny in Scotland. It's been sunny for two days together, and surely on a day like this the young king would enjoy riding out on the hillside? With his young bride? Yes? ...No?

No! Apparently not! Because the suggestion, made as they broke their fast, was met with a stammered "um...aye...well...you can if you like, I'm sure someone will go with you..." But Annabella, when asked, had a headache; and Mary had hesitated at the thought of finding one of the ever-busy lords and demanding that an escort be arranged so that she could go out by herself.

So it's a somewhat put-out Mary of Guelders who sneaks into Milliways today, wrapped in a cloak and ready to find something to do.




((Sleep deprivation and a head cold are telling me that it's totally a great idea to put in an EP! I have the feeling they'll be telling me to take a nap eventually, but in any case I'll be back/around.))

Today Marcus is wearing a long green trench coat with a tied red ribbon around it.

He notices a woman with a cloak come in, but slightly eyes her seeing he'd never seen her before.

"Hello?"

She eyes him back, doubtfully, but the long colorful coat has a certain undeniable charm. "Yes--hello!"

"Oh, I didn't notice you were here until you walked in.. He noticed her looking at his coat and nodded "Oh.. This? This is my human resistance coat."

[idareyou]

Mary laughs. "I wasn't here until I walked in! But what on earth is a human resistance coat?"

[anewhero]

Marcus looked up and noticed the woman and nodded "Long story, my Earth is... at war with machines in the future."

"This human resistance coat is what soldiers wear to tell who's who."

[idareyou]

"At war? With...machines?" It sounds like something from a nonsense story. "What, like...trebuchets?"

[anewhero]

"Yes, war with .. trebuchets..."

Marcus thought about how to explain future sci-fi concepts.

"A very, very large bomb caused my earth to be wiped out with countless damages. Think of the "Black Death" but X100 times worse. But that's not all. This bomb was set off by a very alive machine named Skynet.

That...doesn't sound so funny, now. Mary pulls her cloak a little tighter about herself. "I don't understand. I can't understand something like that."

Here's somehow who looks sort of outdoorsy. In a very regal way.

Elrond is dressed warmly but his head is bare, leaving his long, partly braided hair - and his leaf shaped ears - fully visible.

The pointed ears are a little odd, but mostly she's struck by the man's handsome robes. See, why can't there be more people like that in Scotland? Some of the lords make an effort but then they'll have Livingston stomping into the king's chamber with his sleeves rolled and ink still on his fingers...

She smiles tentatively at the tall man.

[starrydome]

He returns the smile with one of his own, bright and brilliant and kind.

"Well met," he says, as he pulls off his leather gloves. His fingers are long and elegant.

[idareyou]

Mary inclines her head, a gracious gesture she's practiced. "Well met, sir. Have you just come in?" It's the outdoorsy look.

[starrydome]

"I have," he says. "It is cold out, but I felt in need of a walk. To feel the wind on my face."

[idareyou]

"It's summer where I'm coming from--and it's so strange to skip back and forth between the seasons! Is it--has it started to snow yet here?"

[starrydome]

He nods.
"It has. The world has grown quiet and white now."

He settles down on a chair and rubs his hands together.
"And cold."

[idareyou]

Mary hesitates, then offers, "Would you like a hot drink?" She's not the hostess here, but it seems like the gracious thing to do?

[starrydome]

He smiles up at her.

She is very young. New to her own household perhaps.

"Thank you. That is very kind of you."

[fieryface]

Jamie was thinking of going riding himself-- can't waste a sunny day, can you. But he didn't sleep so well last night. But here's a thought: he'll sneak off to Milliways for a kip and not lose any time for it. Plus he hardly ever has nightmares at Milliways-- though between the ghosts and his dad's book and folks bleeding on the floor, he's wondering when that will change.

In any case, that's where he goes, wandering into the Bar and wondering if maybe William's here.

Mary spots him as he comes in--and makes a noise like Eep and goes through the nearest door, which she thinks might be a strangely clean and shiny kitchen. How did James follow her here? Or did he know all about it already?

She risks a peep around the kitchen doorway.

Jamie hasn't noticed her yet, not being the most observant of wee kings. He settles himself into a booth. Well, while he's here, why not have some food?

[idareyou]

Mary watches. For longer than is polite. Or dignified. James seems to know what he's doing here--orders food, looking more comfortable than he does most nights at dinner. And he's glancing around as if expecting someone. Not her, that's certain!

Oh, Heavens, if he sees her peeking at him from the kitchen door like a scullery maid! She smooths her hair and her cloak and strolls over, as if this is a perfectly normal place to meet. "Your majesty!"

[fieryface]

Jamie jumps. "Christ-- what--?" His shock doesn't really lessen when he realizes who has spoken. "Mary? What are you doing here?"

[idareyou]

"I was here first!"

At least...today. Has he perhaps been coming here for years and years? (Is that why he's so strange and uncertain sometimes?)

[fieryface]

"That's no an answer," he says peevishly. Why is she here? In his and William's place?

[idareyou]

"Well--what are you doing here? I just...I found it in the wardrobe upstairs." And why shouldn't she be here!
