First EP

[spaceman_xephos]

The front door turns into a heavy iron door, before swinging open with a loud clunk.

“AH-NO-WAIT-WHAT-”

BOOM!

A shower of, well, random crap explodes on the other side of the door, some of it making its way through the door, while someone cackles wildly on the other side. Ignoring the cackling is a slim man in a red officer’s coat, grumbling as he picks up a sword, some bits of wire, concrete, metal ingots that run the gamut from tin to gold, a few gems that could be diamonds, a pickaxe, and a few wooden signs. The dirt, he kicks under a table as the door swings shut again with another clunk.

“Ffffffflipping maniac,” he mutters as he shoves all of it into his invisible inventory.

A gemstone rolls over to Sinric's feet where he picks it up and holds it out to the man. "This is yours, I believe."

"Oh. Thanks, friend." Xephos takes the gem and tosses it into the disorganised abyss that is now his inventory. It's not until a few moments later that he realises two things about the person who handed him his diamond.

He is neither Lalna, nor is he a villager.

"Hang on, who put a portal in our base?" he asks.

"It would seem your portal has brought you to a different place again." Sinric answers with a reassuring smile. "A haven of sorts."

Xephos sighs, muttering something that sounds an awful lot like 'goddamnit, Lalna.'

But Lalna apparently isn't here to get the full force of Xephos' anger, so he puts it on the back burner for when he figures out how to get back to the base.

"A haven? What kind of haven?"

"A place of peace and plenty. Where time does not pass in the outside world. Where one may rest, learn, recover strength, or plan for the future."

"Oh, that doesn't sound too bad," Xephos says. "Usually these portals spit you out somewhere awful, like the bug dimension or something."

The bug dimension is the worst.

Sinric chuckles. "Some bugs." He gestures to the trilobite tank, "But not awful number of them. I'm Sinric." He bows slightly to the man. "It it helps, the bar provides a written leaf that explains more."

[spaceman_xephos]

Oh god, they look like silverfish! D:

"I'm Xephos," he says, still looking at the bugs in the tank. "Are those things safely contained?"

"They are. But they're tame pets from what I understand. You have nothing to fear from them. Or the firefish." He gestures to the fireplace and the fish swimming on the flames.

Xephos is more concerned about the fire than the fish in it, but it doesn't seem like the fire is likely to get out of control. Hmm.

"What is this place called, anyway?" Xephos asks.

"It is called Milliways. Both the tavern and the world is called that. Outside there are gardens and a lake, mountains and more beyond."

Xephos has never heard of it. But that doesn't mean much, in the grand scheme of things.

But it sounds pretty normal, so far.

"So, what's the catch?"

"So far I've yet to find one." Sinric shrugs. "The rules are simple and enforced fairly for the most part. The bar allows tabs and only calls them in from time to time."

[spaceman_xephos]

"No, I mean. The catch. Giant spiders, zombie pigmen, darkness that's lethal if you stay in it too long," Xephos says.

Because every dimension has a catch.

Sinric shakes his head. "There are demon rabbits in the mountains but if you stay away from their lairs, they cause little trouble."
