[oom (and then not): Jamie has a nightmare.]

It's been a while since the Bar has been set upon by this pair of boisterous Scottish boys, but here they are-- James still looking pale and sleepy-eyed, but this seems to have no effect on the volume at which he is laughing at whatever (probably filthy) joke William just told. Perhaps this is when their lordly background shows the most: their complete lack of self consciousness in taking up space, in bursting into a room and making as much noise as they please.

[ooc: two lads, one post! feel free to request both or either]
makesthings: (trying not to laugh)

Sam's sketching and absently drinking some wine when they burst in, he grins as they remind him of the noise and bad jokes of Somersby though their clothes suit the Old Kingdom.

He's casual today and not that far from their style in a linen shirt and comfortable leather trousers, all of it slightly grimy with work. Sadly they're about to run into his table so he says in a laughing voice, "Watch yourself."

It's too late for William, though; he catches the edge of the table as he turns to look. Ouch. "Aw, Christ. Uh--sorry, I--" Ow. Oops.

Sameth's wine teeters and he catches it though a few drops go on his work, "Nothing broken. Are you celebrating something?"

"Nah, we're just--" Shrug. Just a couple of young guys crashing around like usual. "I've no spoilt your work, have I?"
makesthings: (easy smile)

[personal profile] makesthings 2017-02-23 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
"No, and no, you haven't. I could use a break," He shifts his work and moves some chairs out.

(OOC: I can take this tag as its directly to Sameth and maybe go alternate if both your schedules are tricky.)

The paper has something that could be a hand on it and lots of flowing almost gold lines of Marks that shift, "I'm working on how to improve a prosthetic hand that I made."

"Eh...prosthetic?" It's not a word he knows, but he can make a guess. "Like a metal or wooden hand for someone who's lost one?" It's a pretty common occurance in war.
makesthings: (sketching spells)

"Yes, this ones a mixture of metal alloys and I use my magic to make it a better working arm. Its for my aunt who lost her arm during a battle," He turns the page so that they can both look at what he's working on.

"They're called Charter Marks and that's actually the magic. I'm working out which spells to use to make it move and sense better," He pushes back his bangs to show the Mark on his forehead.

William has been leaning in and looking with interest: it's clear he does see this too. But he catches the nervous look and shifts himself a little bit closer to Jamie. "So what's it doing on the front of your head? That's not a...eh...a prosthetic, right?"
makesthings: (little awkward)

[personal profile] makesthings 2017-02-24 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh no, that's a Charter Mark that connects me to the Charter, just a magical symbol," Sam looks between them, he didn't mean to be worrying.

"Plenty of people around here that use magic," William says, cheerfully enough. It's all right, Jamie, just the ordinary sort of Milliways weirdness, nothing extra. "So your auntie, does she fight or was she in the wrong place at the wrong time?"
makesthings: (sure in his place)

(OOC: If you want me to delete, I can, it seemed like a good place for a direct answer.)

"She was fighting. Everyone in my family protects the Old Kingdom in one way or another. My mother and aunt are Abhorsens who fight the Dead, Dad's the king, my older sister's the Heir and I'm a Wallmaker, I use my magic to repair the magic of the Old Kingdom but we've all fought in battles. Lirael lost her hand when we were all saving the Old Kingdom from an old enemy,"

His family believes that they have a duty to their kingdom.

Fight the dead? He resists the urge to glance at James, to check if he's all right, if this is too much too close to one of his nightmares. "Aye, well, sounds like quite a family. We'll have to get your sister a sword one of these days, Jamie, won't we? See who she can scare off that way."
makesthings: (little awkward)

[personal profile] makesthings 2017-02-24 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Older or younger sister? Mine's older and taller than me, which isn't fair," He can do a change of subject.

"Annabella was married off too, it just didn't take. Now she's running about like a goose. She's alright, though," he adds hastily. "Not saying anything against your sister, Jamie. --You dinny see so many women that fight these days, do you." The Stewarts used to have some fearsome creatures, he's heard.

"Why not?" In the Old Kingdom everyone fights, that's the way its always been.

"Well--it's no like they need to, anyway. If they've got a husband or a brother or...father, cousin..." He's rather taken aback by the question; better turn it into a joke. "Anyway, who'd want a wife that could use a sword? Christ, picture every meal, it's all kicking off and the wifey has a fucking blade at your throat!"

He elbows Jamie. The wee French wife doesn't do that, does she. "Now, kicking and biting a bit in a football match, that's different."

"Right, and I like to see a girl that'll kilt up her skirts and join in the football. And fine, there's plenty of ladies that could pick up a sword if it came to defending a castle. But Christ, when they start thinking they can go off into battle, or throw an axe on the table when you disagree about expenses..."

(OOC: Thank you for your patience, moving has taken all my time.)

Sam stares at them for a few moments, "That's stupid. Women are usually the best fighters and my sister was captain of her hockey team."

"Its almost a rule in the Old Kingdom, everyone knows how to fight. The place I went to school did and rugby and cricket. Do you play?"

He misses being able to play sports with people.
