Bonnie pins a notice on the board when she comes into the bar this evening.

'All participants in the Easter Portrait Photography Challenge please submit your scores here!'

She then settles down near the fire, with some knitting. She unravels one of her own knitted sweaters first, winding the wool back into a ball, then proceeds to re-knit the wool to fit a smaller person.

Baze glances at the sign she nailed up, making use of the bar's handy translation magic to read it. He cups Chirrut's elbow and leads him to the table she's knitting at. "Hello! I'm Baze Malbus. I noticed you putting a sign up. Is Easter a Milliways custom?" he says, and then nudges his friend. "Introduce yourself to the lady, Chirrut. She's knitting."

"Definitely a valid threat." Chirrut huffs at Baze, but offers a smile anyway, his sightless gaze fixed somewhere off Bonnie's left shoulder. "I'm Chirrut Imwe. Forgive my nosy friend."

Bonnie laughs.

"Oh sure, you can do plenty damage with a pair of knitting needles. And Easter is more an Earth tradition, the game is just fer the Scouts. I'm Bonnie." she offers each a calloused handshake.

"She's offering us handshakes, Chirrut," Baze says, and takes her hand in both his own, meatier ones. He claps her hand warmly and firmly. His palms are also calloused, but not from sword or staff work, but handling guns and knives--if Bonnie can tell the difference.

Once Baze finishes with the clasping her hand, he guides Chirrut's hands to hers. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Bonnie. What are the Scouts?"

Chirrut's hands are warm, as is his smile. The callous there have been formed over decades of staff work.

"Doughty warriors, doubtless, led by a lady who understands the worth of a good needle."

She shakes the hands firmly.

"The Scouts are a group of kids, or folks who are kids at heart here, and we do activities and things." she says. "Some of the children here don't have much of a childhood."

Baze cocks his head, mulling that over. He quickly decides he likes it, and breaks into a smile. "Oh, that's a wonderful idea," he says warmly. "What sorts of activities?"

Chirrut wonders what he would have done with an opportunity like that. Terrorized the place, probably.

"Baze here used to be a wonderful teacher."

"Well I try and do a whole range." Bonnie says. "To suit different ages. We just had a photography contest and I'm plannin' a campin' trip."

Baze laughs at his friend's praise. The larger man hasn't taught classes in such a long time, but the memories are good ones. "Thank you, Chirrut. You weren't half bad yourself," Baze says, placing his hand on the back of one of the chairs at Bonnie's table in an unspoken question regarding sitting down.

"Maybe I could hold a martial arts class for any interested children," he says, beaming at her. "I've heard of camping, as a basic concept, but I've never done it myself. What do you do?"

Chirrut smirks, shaking his head.

"Niiiiightmares, Chirrut." He murmurs, laughter in his voice.

"Campin' is sleepin' out in a tent." Bonnie says. "I'm thinkin' of takin' them up the mountain this time, only a little way, but enough fer a challenge."

She smiles. "That's real kind of you, thank you fer the offer. But I got to be honest, practically all the kids are already combat trained. That's partly why they have such difficult childhoods."

Baze considers this, nodding. He's not exactly disquieted by children being trained for combat--after all, he did train them back at the temple--but that these ones find it difficult to be kids because of that. The concept doesn't make sense to him. The kidlets at the temple never had any problem with that, so he's a little confused.

"Camping sounds fun," he says instead. "What will you do about the demon bunnies?"

He waves down a waitrat and orders hot chocolate with tang bark for himself. "Chirrut, I have a rat waiting. Did you want anything? How about you, Bonnie?"

"Sapir, thank you." He orders politely. "The bunnies sound fierce enough to have survived on Jedha, cold and all. I'm not sure I'd want to be sleeping next to them"

"Non-alcoholic beer would be wonderful, thank you." Bonnie says.

"Well, I guess we'll either scare 'em off, or try and see if we can cook'm. We got a badge fer that."

The rat skitters off. Baze raises his brows. "Are they edible, being demons and all?" he says, blinking. "And badges?"

"Some sort of cooking utensil?" Chirrut hazards, given the context. "Eating demons, that sounds... risky."

"I hear they don't taste good." Bonnie says. "But the badges are like awards."

"Awards, huh?" Baze says, scratching his cheek. He folds his hands together on the table. "Awards for what? Aside from cooking a demon."

"This was an underused concept in the temple." Chirrut notes, rapt. If he could go back in time, he would suggest them to Master Sheotar.

And probably get kitchen duties for months.

"Oh all sorts." Bonnie says. "Campin', art, music, various life skills."

They actually have more Merit Badges than one of the real world examples they're based on.

"So they're like little trophies?" Baze says, still puzzled. He scoops up his drink from the rat, pressing Chirrut's into his hand and offering Bonnie here. "Do the children display then anywhere?"

"That could get messy." Chirrut notes, "Unless there aren't many children?"

"Thank you." Bonnie accepts the drink. "And they are supposed to sew them onto their hoodie - their shirt."

Baze is even more confused, thinking of sewing physical trophies onto a shirt. The concept completely baffles him until he realizes a very important fact. "So they're like patches, and not little trophies at all?"
