Tess is caught a little off guard when she enters Milliways today. She's just come from bo practice and isn't expecting to be brought into the bar.

No matter. She'll take her bo staff and grab a cup of coffee before settling on a couch, feet up, and attempt to do this thing called 'relaxing'.

Cassian isn't attempting to relax, he has his datapad out and a mug of caf as he's planning what he needs for the next mission. The extra time here means that he can use what he has at home to double check the ship and go over orders with Kay. He's in his black leather jacket with a blaster at his hip and nods to her when she sits down, noting her weapon, its not one he normally sees.

Shen nods back, not recognizing his face, either.

"Busy day?"

"Start of one, yes. Are you practicing for something?" That's a weapon to do damage and she looks like she's been sparring.

She shakes her head.

"Just working out."

But also keeping in practice in case she needs it.

"Is there a good place for it here?" He found the firing range but a gym could be useful too.

She has to think about that for a moment and then shrugs.

"I'm honestly not sure. I came in like this."

"I see. I'm new and still learning what's here," Its not terribly pressing for him.

"I assume you've gotten the welcome spiel?"

Most people do their first time around.

"Yes, and found the garage and all the ships there," He still hasn't figured out how to best get them to the Rebellion.

"There are ships in the garage?"

Obviously, that's one place she's never been.

"Why do they interest you?"

"I'm a pilot and my U-wing's always needing work. Ships that won't fly will provide parts and there are almost squadrons of starfighters down there,"

Along with others that he's only ever seen in holovids or from far away.

Okay, so smaller ships, not necessarily ones you'd live on. That's good to know.

"Who do you fly for?"

Starfighters? This should be good.

"No one in particular. I take on the jobs I can. I'm in the midst of planning one now,"

Flying is something he does for the Rebellion but only part of his work.

"Oh?"

So very vague, Cassian. It only piques her interest.

"Hauling cargo, that sort of thing?"

"Cargo, ferrying people, whatever jobs I can find to keep me flying and not gathering too much interest,"

He shrugs and looks for a rat to order a caf.

That was possibly the wrong thing to say.

"Now why would you prefer to stay under the radar?"

"Because no one wants the Empire looking too closely at them,"

Its a truth of his world and his reasons might be deeper but its shared by many.

"What's the Empire?"

There's something nagging at the back of her memory, but she can't quite think what it is.

"Galactic Empire, based out of Coruscant," Its strange to him how not everyone knows it.

That's not entirely helping yet, either.

"So, the big, bad guys?"

He considers her, that's a flippant answer and makes him wary to share too much, "The ones in charge who control most of the galaxy and they can be cruel."

"Well, that's a big yes."

She eyes him right back.

"But you have to be careful not to let them hear that."

"No one wants to hear stormtrooper boots at their door and I like having the freedom of my ship,"

Also with his background, if the Empire found out who he was, they would torture him before they killed him to try and find out about the Rebellion.

"Stormtrooper boots..."

Oh.

Oh.

Well, damn.

"Freedom does tend to be a nice thing."

"You've heard of stormtroopers?"

She a moment ago didn't recognize the Empire.

She didn't. Empire is too general a word for her to twig on. Even a galactic one. But stormtroopers? Those are pretty specific.

Now, how to dance around this.

"I've heard the name in passing. They don't sound like they'd be any fun."

"No, they're not but they're unimaginative most of the time,"

Its the ones who lead them that tend to cause trouble.

"That's usually what they're paid to be."

Are stormtroopers paid? Things the movies never touched on.

"No, they follow orders and use their boots where they're told to."

"Point and shoot?"

If she remembers correctly. It's been a while.

"Yes, that's the way of the Empire. The stormtroopers are their enforcers."

An Empire has an Emperor and there's Darth Vader, she recalls. And this man tries to circumvent them.

"Must make your job a little difficult now and then."

"It does, but I'm good at improvising,"

He's very good at flying below the radar and he's getting better at finding ways to get inside.

"I imagine you'd have to be."

She holds out a hand.

"I'm Tess."

"Cassian," He shakes her hand firmly, there are blaster callouses on his hand.

Those are duly noted.

"Pleasure to meet you. How did you stumble on Milliways?"

"I was looking for a cantina and found it instead. Its a good find."

"Well, you weren't far off."

In a manner of speaking.

"It's useful for taking time off when you need it. And there are interesting people."

"Yes and the best caf I've found anywhere,"

The time is a wonderful bonus and the ships, they're possibilities.

She lifts her own cup.

"It is pretty good."

"It is," He lifts his to her, this next mission will keep him busy, so he's enjoying the time to plan.
