And not, it seems, in the infirmary where Wilford had expected him. There may be some swearing, and the sound of something hard getting punched coming from back there, just moments before Wilford storms out again.

When he spots Guppy, Wilford changes the direction he was storming off, and heads straight toward Guppy's table.

"Where's your friend?" he demands. "I need to smash his fucking face in."

"Which friend? I know half the bar." Guppy asks, looking at him.

For goodness sake, does this guy never stop yelling about stuff? What's wrong with him now?

"The one who fucking stole my dog."

Obviously.

Wilford hasn't reset from the last time they spoke, though enough time has passed for Wilford that the scrape on the side of his face has mostly healed over.

"You left him, again? How do you know he didn't wander off, again?"

"Because your friend told me he was going to take him. You heard it!"

And it's not like Buster can open up a door and leave on his own.

"Sure, but I don't think either of us thought you were stupid enough to leave the dog again. Where have you looked?" Guppy asks, trying to keep himself calm.

"And lose my fucking apartment?"

The dog bed isn't too far away, and Wilford stomps over to it. The remains of the baseball bat is still in the bed, and Wilford picks it up and hurls it into the nearest wall. It doesn't make him feel any better, but it might get his point across.

"Do they not have kennels in you... for fuck's state, stop that!" Guppy says. "You're the one who doesn't like accusations going around without proof, so why don't you go look for Buster outside, up a tree like he usually is?"

"You think that wasn't my first thought? He's not in the fucking lake either, or anywhere else. That dog knows that when I'm in here, he gets fed. So where is he, if he's not here?"

What kind of idiot does Guppy think he is, that he wouldn't have at least looked for himself first.

"Want me to get my dog to try and sniff him out?" Guppy offers.

"No, I want you to tell me where your moron friend is."

He doesn't have time to look for something he knows isn't here.

[guppy_sandhu]

"No." Guppy says. "Look, he won't have taken Buster. I asked him not to after you left. How do you know Buster didn't run away into the forest? There's any number of wild animals out there."

"Go get a can of tuna, and see how fast he runs for you," Wilford says. "You think I just walked in and decided this would be a fun way to spend my afternoon? Somebody took my fucking dog, right after somebody threatened to."

Wilford even makes it easy on him. He gets a can of tuna from the bar and slaps it down in front of Guppy.

"What kind of tea is that? It smells great," a great, big bear of a man asks, settling his armored bulk onto a barstool. There are still-healing bruises on his face, mottled and purple and yellow. "Name's Baze Malbus, by the way."

He offers a meaty hand.

"Just bog standard Builder's Tea." Guppy says, shaking the hand. "Guppy Sandhu. Would you like a cup?"

"Oh, sure, that'd be great," Baze says, with a cherry grin. He pats the bar, and she provides a cup of the steaming beverage, to his thanks. "Have you been coming to Milliways long?"

[guppy_sandhu]

"Er, about twelve years?" Guppy says. "So quite a while."

"I can't even imagine," Baze says, chuckling. "You must have seen all sorts of changes to the bar."

He takes a gulp of the tea. "Hey, this is great! Not like that nasty Tarine stuff. That drink is foul."

[guppy_sandhu]

"Oh heck yeah." Guppy says. "But they tend to happen gradually."

He sips his tea. "We British do like our tea. Where are you from?"

"Gradually, huh? That makes sense," Baze says, nursing his tea. "I'm from a cold, desert moon named Jedha, which orbits the gas giant NaJedha in the Terrabe sector. I assume you're from an Earth?"

[guppy_sandhu]

"Yes, I am." Guppy says. "And that doesn't sound like somewhere that tea would grow well."

[iprotectyou]

"Not at all," Base says, nodding eagerly. "Nothing grows on Jedha, except a few trees and grasses too stubborn to grow anywhere else. My friend, Chirrut--his favorite tea is sapir, and we had to have that imported from off-planet. Before we came here, he didn't drink much of it."

Baze grins again. "When we first arrived a few weeks ago, I thought this was heaven. I haven't seen much to contradict that notion."

Some evidence. Not much.

"Well it is, for some." Guppy says. "But not me."

"Oh, really?" Baze says, his voice tinged with concern. "Why's that? Is there something about it in particular that you don't like?"

[guppy_sandhu]

"Not really, just I'm not dead." Guppy says. "Though it can get dangerous here at times."
