OOM: A complicated mission.

All Cassian wants is to stand under a 'fresher and not listen to orders from anyone for a few hours, maybe even do something other than monitoring. All the parts of his disguised uniform are on his bed, he's only in his shirt and grey pants when he enters Milliways.

As the noise changes, he sighs, this will do for now. He sits down near the fire and orders caf with a shot of rum in it and some waffles, Imperial food somehow is flavorless and filling. He clasps his hands until his drink arrives to hide the small trembles which come and go. Once he's settled, his gaze goes over the main Bar.

Alana, sitting at the bar, watches him enter. She swallows a gulp of her latte while deliberating whether or not to approach, and finally tells herself that she has to.

"Cassian?" she says, once she's in range of the couch. She stops a fair distance away, giving him room to leave, and lets her hands hang loose at her sides. Her body language is open, non-threatening. She hopes. "I need to apologize to you. I'm sorry for projecting, and for pressing you about the Empire. I'll not mention them in conversation again unless you do. Provided you're still interested in conversation."

When she approaches he gives her a considering look, she didn't understand the insult she gave him, but she tries to be kind. She has faced violence but nothing like the Empire.

Alana will provide distraction away from this mission and he nods, "Thank you for the apology and I wouldn't mind conversation. I've been in the midst of a long and boring job."

Alana smiles a little, sipping her latte. "I'm sorry to hear that," she says. "Dare I ask what you're doing?"

"A lot of staring at instruments and consoles watching routes and relays,"

Completely accurate and the kind of work he hates as it provides too much time to think. His food arrives, a generous bowl of space waffles and he pushes it towards her. He knows his hands still have a slight tremble and he doesn't want to reach for one yet.

Alana raises a hand. "No, I'm not hungry. Thanks for the offer, though," she says, that small smile still fixed on her face. "That really does sound boring. Is Kay with you to help?"

"Yes, he's around but he can't do this job for me,"

Kay has his own role to fulfill as they establish the identity. After a few sips of his caf, he reaches for one, they're a wonderful treat.

"I would think he'd be a great help, what with a brain that acts like a computer and able to analyze things," Alana says, resting her chin on her knuckles. "At least, I assume that's how his brain works; I don't know much about droids."

"He can but that's not how this job works. It depends on the droid, they tend to be specialized such as astromechs who can calculate navigation faster than anything."

"And he's not an astromech?" Alana says, tilting her head. "What's different about this job?"

"They fit within ships, starfighter pilots rely on them. They can do repairs along with navigation," He positions a waffle which is about the right shape for an X-Wing, "If this is an X-Wing, then the pilot sits here and the droid's here, they're almost all R units in my time. I've met an R2 unit here with his pilot."

Well, if Cassian doesn't want to talk about the job, Alana won't press. She's learned her lesson.

"And Kay is a K-unit, hence his name?" Alana says, nodding thoughtfully. "What was he built for? Translation work?"

Cassian laughs, Kay should never be allowed to do translation and the image improves his night, "No, no, he was built for helping with moving things around and spatial logistics."

Its sort of true, he was made to be an enforcer droid and is good at picking things up.

"Spatial logistics?" Alana says, furrowing her brow. "I'm not quite sure what that means in this context. He must be built to be very strong. Is he bipedal?"

"It can mean a lot of things, Kay's adaptable like me, that's why we work well together."

"I see," Alana says, sipping her latte. "How long have you worked with him?"

"Almost ten years, I think. Calendars are always odd depending on where you are."

He remembers their meeting but in those years, time was measured by surviving more than years.

"I've never had that problem, except for here," Alana says, tilting her head. "Does he know about Milliways?"

"Too many planets and while the Empire tries to standardize it, not everyone chooses to follow them. Not yet, but I'm going to tell him. It improves what we can do,"

And while he might not tell Kay information, its best when they both know as much as they can.

"That's probably a good idea," Alana says, nodding thoughtfully. "That way, he'll be prepared if the door ever chooses him. I wonder if it can choose a droid. But he seems to be his own person, so I wouldn't be surprised."

"Artoo comes here, I don't know if he comes on his own but I wouldn't be surprised. Astromechs tend to want to do everything their own way."

"Artoo?" Alana says, pretending she doesn't recognize the name. "Droids seem like they have a lot of personality. Are all of them sarcastic?"

"No, only some of them, but they always provide opinions on what they know."

Alana smiles. "And they know a lot, right? They're programmed to learn?"

"It depends on the droid and who programmed them, but the good ones pay attention."

"Like Kay," Alana says, inclining her head. "Is it difficult to program a droid? Can anyone do it?"
