The circle of chairs is... not in the bar today, instead there's a sign.

LIFE SUPPORT
OUTSIDE TODAY, ON THE BEACH
FREE FOOD AND A CHAT
CAMPFIRE WITH MARSHMALLOWS

Out on the beach, there is a circle of deckchairs. It's too nice weather today to waste inside. There's also a yummy picnic, and a thermos of tea.

He shrugs sadly. "There's a lot of people who hate him. I think he's gotten use to it."

"I'm sorry to hear that," Alana says, exhaling through her nose. "I don't hate him, he just reminds me of Dr. Lecter, who I'd rather not see anymore."

He nods, saved from trying to find a reply by Kyber, who had excavated a marshmallow from the bowl and is about to take off with it. "Kyber! Where is your big sister when I need her?"

Alana chuckles half-heartedly. She's not used to antics by cats. "So why do people hate Galen?"

"The Empire corrupted his research to design a terrible weapon. A world killer. And when they couldn't build it without him, they ripped him from his family and forced him to finish it. He worked in secret to build a trap inside the Death Star, one the rebels could be able to exploit to destroy it. And it the end, they did."

Bodhi bites his lip, suppressing a surge of anger. "And yet they still hate him. They still remember him as the father of death."

Death Star? Ah. Alana makes a mental note to rewatch those movies. Obviously there were parts she missed. She's never heard of Galen Erso, or Bodhi Rook.

Alana's not sure what to say.

"That's quite the story," she says, sympathetically. "Dr. Erso did say he was researching the energy applications of a crystal which could break physics. It's no wonder people weaponized it."

"I don't understand the physics." Bodhi admits. "But the crystals came from my home world. That's part of why the Guardians hate him. The temples were stripped to fuel the weapon."

"Guardians?" Alana says, furrowing her brow. "Are they the ones you're so angry at?"

"Two men from my world. We fought and died together. They didn't know, about Galen and I. Not then. But they did when he arrived here. When they kicked in his ribs."

"They probably thought their actions were justified," Alana says, frowning slightly. "Did you confront them?"

"I was furious. I broke Baze's nose." He shrugs. "He let me hit him. I think he thought that meant we were even."

Alana blnks at him. "He didn't hit you back, right?"

"I'd be in the infirmary if he had. He's a big man and I'm not really a fighter."

Alana tilts her head. "I can see the logic behind him letting you hit him, and thinking that you were even. Physical violence for physical violence. But the debt hasn't been repaid enough in your opinion?"

He shakes his head. "They knew. They knew what he meant to me. What being without him did to me." He glances down at his wrists again, trying to cover the unconscious gesture. "And they would have taken him away from me again. I don't think I can ever forgive that."

"Forgiveness is always difficult," Alana says, inclining her head. "Were they your friends before?"

"We fought together." He shrugs. It's a strange bond, not really friendship and yet deeper. At least he thought it was. "We started to become friends here but-"

"Im sorry you lost your companions," Alana says, drawing a breath through her nose. "What does Dr. Erso say?"

"He wants to make peace with them. We're the last people of a world the Empire destroyed. Galen... doesn't want to be the cause of a rift between us. He's more forgiving than I am."

"So he can forgive them, but you can't?" Alana says, her brows raising. "I understand. Forgiveness is a long and winding road. It takes time. But at least one of them--Baze, was it?--has taken steps towards atonement by letting you break his nose."

He nods sadly, reaching for Kyber again to stop him knocking over the bowl of sweets. "I'm sorry. I talk about myself too much."

"I don't mind," Alana says, crossing her legs at the knee. "This is Life Support. Listening is what we're here for."

"Then thank you for listening to me." He bundles up the kitten, "It was very kind of you."

"It was my pleasure, Bodhi," Alana says, managing a smile for him. "Take care of yourself. And good luck with your situation. If you want to talk, I'm always available. Just drop me a note."

He gives her a tight but honest smile and nods before heading over to where Galen's talking.
