At some point, Wilford manages to sneak away to leave a note for Jim.

Need my dog. Now. Just for a few days.

There's something a bit off about the handwriting. Like maybe the person who wrote it has had more than a few too many to drink.

Isn't there just something off about that handwriting? And Jim will look forward to finding out the story behind it eventually, but right now now he has other stuff on his mind.

'Gladly,' he mutters, as soon as he reads the note, and heads straight home to fetch him. Buster is happy enough to get his leash on, and trots behind with his bat in his mouth. Jim puts him in his bed, and leaves a note in return.

Feel free to keep him forever. JM.

Ten minutes later, Buster and his bat are gone. The only sign there was ever even a dog in the bed is the leash left behind.
