Alana Bloom takes a long time to screw up her courage. She tells herself that she's only leaving a note--just an inquiry, really--and eventually gathers her wits and figures out what she wants to say.


To whom it may concern,

My name is Alana Bloom, and I have frequently suffered harassment at the hands of one Dr. Hannibal Lecter. He is from my world and often tortures me about events from there that occur in his timeline--specifically my future. Does this count as outside business?

I appreciate any advice you care to impart on this matter. Thank you for your kind attention and quick response.

After she drops the note off at the bar, Alana takes a seat there. Bar offers her a latte, and she sips at it gratefully while waiting for someone from Security to respond, her knee jiggling.

It is difficult to yell using sign language, for one. At least that was X's thought.

"Yes."

A pause.

"We will send a note on T-minus, too. For people that may not be here. Now."

"Good," Alana says, inclining her head. "I'm sorry that my problem is a problem, but I'm glad it engendered such an elegant solution. Is there any way I can help? You seem to have everything handled as a team."

X reaches out to pat Alana's shoulder.

Once.

"Remember that tactical retreats are useful."

Alana's smile is raw and genuine, almost hopeful. "Thank you, X. I'll keep that in mind," Alana says. Her smile dims a bit. "I'm almost ready to go back to my world, if you're still interested in coming back with me. I'm waiting on Rae Seddon to return from hers."

"I am," X says, simple and matter-of-fact.

"You know when she will return? Rae."

Alana sighs. "I have no idea," she says, shaking her head. "She waited a year to return to her world in the first place; I can only hope she doesn't wait another one to come back here."

X bites her lip, studying Alana carefully.

"You do a lot of waiting. Too."

A pause.

"You know what you will do? If she is gone a year. Here."

Alana rubs her eyes. "I do," she says, her tone resigned. "Eventually, the day will come when I am sick of waiting, and then I'll ask you to come back with me. Maybe in a month or so. Thank you for your patience as well."

X shrugs, one-shouldered and quick.

"I am here a lot."

Beat.

"It is okay."

"Thanks, X," Alana says, inclining her head. "I appreciate that."
