The circle of chairs is out in the main bar. In the middle are a selection of fruit pies, with a choice of ice cream, or cream, or custard, or none of the above.

Behind the pies are a large sign.

Alana lowers her head. "I know. I thought I could handle it by myself."

"What sort of threats is he making?"

"He's not threatening me," Alana says, shaking her head. "Which is why I didn't go to Security earlier. He's... he's dangling hints about my future in front of me, which apparently counts as outside business."

"Given he tried to kill you, that's pretty threatening."

Alana exhales through her nose. "True," she says eventually. "You'd think, that with my background, I'd be able to recognize violence when I see it."

"Happens to the best of us." Guppy says gently.

Alana raises her brows. "I certainly hope it doesn't," she says, slowly. "That would imply that a lot of people are being harassed and are just taking it."

[guppy_sandhu]

"I mean these things creep up on us." Guppy says.

Alana leans back in her chair. "That depends on what you mean by 'things'. Abusive people don't creep up on you, though they do insinuate themselves into your life."

"I mean they build things up, step by step." Guppy says.

"That's true enough," Alana says, looking away. "Though Dr. Lecter is about as subtle as a fist to the face, once you know what you're looking for--and he isn't trying anymore."

"He had me fooled for a while. Fry too." Guppy says.

"As far as I know, he had everyone fooled but Will Graham," Alana says, tilting her head. "And even him for a while."

She sighs again. "X said she's going to make him muck out the stables. Hopefully that will be enough of a deterrent."

Guppy smiles. "Yes, that would be a start. Shame it's taken so long, really."

"I definitely should have come to her earlier," Alana says, remorse flooding her tone. "But you're right, it's a start."

"Have you managed to go back to your home world at all?"

[patterns_bloom]

"No," Alana says, bowing her head again. "I'm still waiting on Rae Seddon to return from her world so she can accompany me and X back to mine."

[guppy_sandhu]

"Do you need a hug?"

Alana stands from her chair and crosses to Guppy. "I wouldn't say no to one. Thanks, Guppy."

Guppy gives her a hug and offers her more pie.
