The circle of chairs is out in the main bar. In the middle are a selection of fruit pies, with a choice of ice cream, or cream, or custard, or none of the above.

Behind the pies are a large sign.

"He will be a full adult of his kind in a year or two", Cadfael tells him. "And then perhaps less of a handful, but no less helpful."

Bodhi smiles fondly. "That'll be interesting to see."

He glances around. "I'm sorry. Am I keeping you for doing- something?"

"Not at all. The purpose of this event is to talk, and it need not be terribly serious talk."

[imthepilot]

"I'm okay for serious talk. At the moment. Galen- the person I was waiting for is here now. We're... making a life."

[a_rare_benedictine]

"You are both - " He selects his words. " - here on the same basis?"

[imthepilot]

"We're both dead, if that's what you mean? Yes. But... I knew- He died before I did."

[a_rare_benedictine]

"Ah." He nods. "Did he know you had heard the news?"

[imthepilot]

"I doubt it. He must have thought I was dead too. He had no way to know I wasn't on Jedha when it-" There's a catch it his throat. "When it was destroyed."

[a_rare_benedictine]

That is almost beyond his understanding.

"...on Jedha. Not in?"

[imthepilot]

"The world I'm- I was from. It was destroyed." Something he's almost come to terms with.

[a_rare_benedictine]

"But you were able to leave that world, in other ways than by coming here?"

[imthepilot]

He nods. "I was rescued." Kind of. "We made it off world just in time."

[a_rare_benedictine]

"To go where?" he asks gently.

[imthepilot]

"To rescue Galen. Or so I thought. I didn't know at the time one of the people I was with had orders to kill him. He didn't, in the end. But his people bombed the facility and Galen was killed."

He still feels very guilty for leading them here.

"But if your world's end came so soon before his... would he have heard of it?"

He's working on a response to the rest that doesn't encourage the guilt he can hear.

He nods. "The man who- killed my world bragged to him."

[a_rare_benedictine]

Cadfael frowns.

"He knew of your relationship? Or was it bragging in ignorance?"

[imthepilot]

"It was the weapon he had forced Galen to design. And Jedha was a world Galen's wife had loved. I think he was just being cruel. But he chose it because there were rebels there who were a danger to him. Including me, in a small way."

He nods.

"Rebels, and no doubt many more people with nothing whatever to do with it."

[imthepilot]

"Many thousands. Jedha city was a place of pilgrimage. Before the war, people came from all over the galaxy to see the Kyber temple. Some even kept coming after the war started and the temple was torn down."

[a_rare_benedictine]

"The temple was not a place of sanctuary,allowed to remain uninvolved in the war?" he asks, rather shocked.

[imthepilot]

Bodhi shakes his head, petting the kitten for comfort. "The kyber crystals, the thing that made the temple special. They're used as fuel for the weapon. It was striped and torn down to get to them. The Empire doesn't care about people's beliefs. Just the resources they can use."

"Then it can only be hoped this Empire will lose and be destroyed. And if you had any part in that, you should be proud."

[imthepilot]

Bodhi lowers his eyes. "Thank you. I should get this little one upstairs before he gets into any more trouble."

He nods. "Feel free to come back for more pie, if you like, when he's safely behind your door."
