Outside the door, there is a quiet "Abracadabra" as Bernard enters, carrying a box of about twenty books.

He deposits one of the books on the bar.

"Give this to that Jim Moriarty bloke." He says. "He'll either laugh or be pissed off but either way it might be entertaining."

Then he puts the box on a table, gets himself a glass of wine and a permanent marker, and writes on the side of the box:

Cooking books, £1, minor typo on front cover.

Right. Let's see if he can get rid of some of these 'The Joy Of Cocking' books that that idiot Manny bought today.


[Aside from the cover, they are just normal cookery books!]

Cassian's almost at his rendezvous with Kay when he finds Milliways in the restaurant he was stopping for lunch, the food will be better here.

As he heads to the counter, he stops at the stack of books, "What kind of cooking books are they?"

"They're wonderful cook books. Full of recipes." Bernard says. "Just got an unfortunate typo on the cover."

He looks into the box, resting his hand on his bag and his eyes widen and he says, "Yes, that's a major typo. Can I look at one?"

"Go ahead." Bernard says, handing one over. It's not like it's a big deal if the guy steals one.

They're all pretty traditional recipes. Nothing very exciting.

Cassian flips through, they're not recipes he knows, wrong world but interesting, "How much are they?"

"A pound." Bernard says. "Or whatever that is on your world, or a glass of wine."

"That's a good price. Any kind of wine you prefer?"

He won't be able to take it with him, that would cause too many questions but he can get ideas here.

"I can't sell them at home, people are stupid and prudish." Bernard says.

Also Manny bought them for fifty pence each and got back to the shop before he realised why they were so cheap.

"Any wine. I'm not fussy. Bernard Black."

"Cassian Andor, actually I'll take two. I know someone who will laugh at it,"

A rat goes by and Cassian orders a bottle of wine along with a beer for himself.

"Excellent, thank you." Bernard hands over the books.

If it's going to be this easy to sell books in here he might start doing it more often.

"Cassian is an unusual name."

"I've never heard that before. I'm from the Galactic Empire," His name is normal there.

"Ah." Not Narnia then. "Where's that, then?"

"Another galaxy with no Earth in it. Are you from an Earth?"

"Cook books?" Bodhi asks curiously, a ginger kitten sticking out of his upper pocket.

"Yes." Bernard says. "They have a minor typo on the front cover."

[imthepilot]

"Oh?" He lifts one of the books to look at the cover. "Oh!" He blushes slightly. "I see."

[upwiththisiwillnotput]

"There's nothing wrong with the content, otherwise." Bernard says. "But the prudish population that frequents my bookshop are making a fuss about it."

He flicks through the recipes. "This is- English cooking?" Oh! Spinach pie! Perfect.

"How much do you want for it?"

[upwiththisiwillnotput]

"A British Pound, or a glass of wine." Bernard says. "And yes, I think it's English. Or American. I'm not big on cooking. You should be able to tell, American words don't tend to have have 'u' in them."

Except 'flour'.

"English cooking seems more... homely." He keeps flicking. "Is there a type of wine you like?"

"I'm not fussy when it comes to wine." Bernard says.

Bodhi goes to the bar and orders - a light red from the inner-rim, strong but not overpoweringly flavoured.

"Does your store hold more books like this?"

[upwiththisiwillnotput]

"Thousands." Bernard says. "Though most of them have the correct covers."

"May I- could I look sometime?"

[upwiththisiwillnotput]

"If you have a potential intent to buy something and bring some currency, sure." Bernard says. "Otherwise there's a library upstairs, apparently."
