Hogwarts AU

Outside there's a person flying above the garden, edge of the forest, sparring ground and just over the beach. They're wearing a red jersey with Scarlett on the back that clashes with their red hair and a ball is darting around. Will Scarlett, Gryffindor 7th year, Quidditch chaser and captain this year is practicing as he gets to go back to school soon.

When the wind picks up and the rain starts, he heads inside to order dinner and try and convince Bar to give him a firewhiskey. His broom and a quaffle are beside him.

OOC: Will is from an AU set about fifteen or so years after the end of the series, Nottingham is dealing with some dark wizard troubles.

Sin watches for a while, perched on a picnic table with a notebook of musical notations open on his lap. He finds himself humming Flight of the Bumblebee under his breath as Will flies.

Soon Will flies down as he watches the clouds and spots Sin with a nod, "Hello."

"That looks like a lot of fun." Sin smiles. "Is it magic?"

[will_scarlett]

"Yes, I'm a wizard," He sits down on the ground with a smile, he loves flying.

Sin smiles too, because the idea is so wonderful and silly. But here, all things are possible. "Do you fly as transport or for pleasure?"

(OOC: Sorry for the wait, family are visiting so busy day.)

"Bit of both. I'm captain of the Quidditch team at school," Flying is one of the best parts of being a wizard.

"What's Quidditch?" The word tastes foreign and fascinating on his tongue.

Will gestures to the ball near him, "The best game, I'm a chaser and its my job to get this, a quaffle into one of three goals while beaters are trying to take me down and a seeker is looking for the golden snitch."

Very little of that makes sense to Sin but it sounds wonderful. And the young man's happiness bleed into his voice.

He smiles warmly, turning his face up into the first drops of rain, relishing them. "Hmm. Perhaps we should go in."

"Thought it was going to do that soon. I'm Will," He picks up his broom and smiles up at the rain, he does enjoy it and he's flown in it before.

"Sin." He introduces himself with a warm smile as he tidies up his papers, tucking his notebook to his chest to keep it dry as they head toward the bar. "Have you been coming here long?"

"Off and on for a couple of years, my doors aren't reliable, but I like getting here when I can."

"I've only been here a few days." Sin explains a little shyly. "I'm still getting my head around it."

[will_scarlett]

"Its a good spot. I always come here to do homework or extra flying time."

Sin chuckles and nods to his own notebook. "It's certainty been helpful for me. May I ask what your studying?"

[will_scarlett]

"I'm in my seventh year at Hogwarts, wizarding school and mainly working on Transfiguration, trying to not fail Potions and graduating. You?"

"Musicology and violin composition." He answers with a smile. "Transfiguration is changing things?"

[will_scarlett]

"Yes, into other things, its one of my best subjects. What kind of music do you write?"

Inside at the counter, Will orders tea and scones.

"How wonderful! Can you show me?" He orders himself a coffee, conscious of not running up too great a tab.

"The collage I study at is very heavily and traditionally classical. The composition I'm writing at the moment is-" he hesitates, looking for the right words, "it's considered a little too radical. I've been working heavy metal guitar And more operatic style of story telling."

"Nothing wrong with being radical, sometimes the old ways have to be changed,"

He pulls out his wand, gives a quick glance around to be certain no teachers are around then transforms a napkin into a butterfly.

"My lecturer is not so open to such breaks from tradition." He shrugs, a little bitter.

He watches the magic with open joy. "Oh, Will! How magnificent!"

"I always like that spell and if you do it with pretty paper, it makes the girls smiles,"

He's definitely used it for getting dates.

"I can imagine." Sin smiles, reaching a finger out to touch the butterfly's flexing wings. "It's a beautiful gift to have."

[will_scarlett]

"And you can make it shinier depending on the paper too."

[thewidewideworld]

"I can imagine. But there must be another use for this skill? Other than pleasing girls?" Or why else would they teach it.

[will_scarlett]

"Oh yes, transfiguration is useful everywhere as it lets you create what you need."

[thewidewideworld]

"Everything in the world, malleable to the touch?" The idea baffles Sin. It's too big.

[will_scarlett]

"Not everything, some are more willing to go from one shape to the other but if you can understand what they want to do. A lot of is possible."

"How do you know what's willing and what's not?"

[will_scarlett]

"Lots of years of study and time,"

He's pretty good at it but the theory tends to lose him.

"Is it something you think you'll use much, when you leave school?"

[will_scarlett]

"I think so, its adaptable."

[thewidewideworld]

"May I ask what you wish to adapt it to?"

[will_scarlett]

"Life is always full of unexpected things. Magic can help with them,"

Nottingham's in trouble and he wants to be ready for whatever he faces.

Sin smiles. "I can imagine. Can anyone learn?"

[will_scarlett]

"In my world, you have to have an ability for it or else it won't work for you."

[thewidewideworld]

"How do you know if you have an ability for it?"

[will_scarlett]

"You know, magic manifests in a way that's hard to miss."

"Ah." Sin seems just a little disappointed. "I guess that was too much to hope for. I've always loved the idea of magic."

"Its only one kind of magic. I think there are others here that can be learned. Wizarding magic has never worked that way."

"Then perhaps there is a way I may learn yet." Sin smiles.
