Stuck planet-bound for a couple of days because of repairs -- and with less of a budget than usual because of said repairs -- heading in to Milliways for rest, relaxation, and something a little more textured than nutrient paste seemed like as good an idea as any.
Having his clothing replaced by a very tight jumpsuit in black and gold was something of a surprise.
Hera, too, looks nonplussed to have her usual shipboard attire replaced by a red and black jumpsuit. The look she casts Kanan is concerned, checking to see if his Force senses are sending up any alarm signals.
Kanan's hands immediately drop to his hips, where the two parts of his lightsaber are still hanging, though the way they're attached to his belt is a little different than before. That's something, at least.
"So this is . . . unexpected." Give him a minute, he was not expecting his clothes to disappear.
Hera just raises one eyebrow at him, lekku twitching in mocking commentary.
"And anything about this place isn't, love?"

While he misses his weapons, he appreciates having puzzles to work on after his odd night. When he sees Hera and Kanan, he leans forward trying to figure out there outfits, "Hello, I think this is for an Earth holiday."
no subject
Kanan looks Cassian over, hands relaxing at his sides, just a little.
"Really? It doesn't seem all that festive, really."
He looks down at his new jumpsuit again, then over to Cassian's monochrome getup.
"Sorry."
no subject
"But ours look like uniforms." Hera glances down to the small, bronze-and-silver badge on her chest, and the similar one on Kanan's.

He gestures to the seats at his table if they want to join him, he could use the company. The outfit combined with his dreams last night have left him feeling the weight of what he does on him.
no subject
"Well, that's -- "
Still probably not festive.
"What kind of agent? I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you're not talking about some kind of planetary customs."
Unless he is, of course.
no subject
"It seems a little..."
She thinks for a moment, for the right word. "... arbitrary."
no subject
"I think there's some thought behind it. An agent who finds information, a glamorous idea of one."
no subject
Given how Cassian usually dresses and carries himself, it seems . . . unlikely. Then again, Kanan doesn't really know him that well, so.
no subject
Hera tends to think of more color when it comes to 'glamorous,' but then, she has very little experience with glamour to begin with.
"But I still don't know what that means for us."
no subject
It probably fits who they are as well as his fits him in terms of meaning if not style.

Kanan's already scanning the area, trying to see if anyone else is dressed like them. This pass, at least, shows him nothing. Oh well.
"I guess it's better than an Imperial uniform. That -- "
And here he addresses himself to the room at large.
" -- would not be funny."
no subject
She glances down at her new clothes again, tugging at her collar to get a look at it. "But it does look like some kind of military uniform."
no subject
no subject
"Do you think I can get kicked out of the military that I never really joined?"
He looks at Hera as he says this, because he really would make the worst military officer. Right?
no subject
Hera reaches down to her waist, finding the blaster once holstered to her ankle now latched to her belt. From her other hip, she pulls out a small, boxy gadget.
"I don't know if this is a weapon," she says, very gently flipping it open, just in case it is.
no subject
Cassian gives Kanan a thoughtful look, he's very anti-military.
no subject
Such as how he is currently peering over Hera's shoulder, looking at the boxy doohickey she just flipped open.
"Is it -- "
No, surely not.
"Is it a really bulky datapad? Or a very basic biosign detector?"
no subject
Now feeling fairly confident that it's not a weapon, she holds it up to Cassian to see if he can make any sense out of it. "I'm not sure what the readings are supposed to mean."
no subject
"That line seems to be measuring something consistent."
no subject
"Or maybe temperature?"
It's not exactly a pulsing line, so . . .
no subject
"If it won't explode or blast anyone, I'm not going to worry about it."
no subject
When a rat comes by he orders a pot of good caf.
no subject
"We're still flying, which has got to count for something."
Right?
no subject
"How about you?"
no subject
Mainly contacting informants and at this point, not as many of the kind he doesn't like.
no subject
"What counts as a big job, for you?"
If Hera's not hiding the fact that they're conferring on what to talk or not talk about, maybe more direct conversation isn't a terrible idea. Or at least maybe it's time to test the waters, see if Cassian is willing to share more..
(Maybe.)

no subject
"Ones where I have to deal more with the Empire and don't have as many options as I'd like. But when they work, I can sometimes find useful openings."
Big sabotage jobs or times when he's undercover long enough to get intel that changes what's possible.
no subject
"Especially if you don't want to stay small."
no subject
"Or even if you do."
no subject
Though that also means that other people don't know what you're doing. And that kind of word of mouth can create hope, its just not the kind of job Cassian usually does.
no subject
"Even too much."
no subject
He is very aware of the disassembled lightsaber hanging at his hip, right now.
"And no one can hide forever."
no subject
"It does, all over the galaxy. Hiding in plain sight can be a way to do that."
Its as clear an admission he can make of what he does in the open.
no subject
no subject
It hurt to learn that, once.
"Well, there's rarely only one way."
no subject
Being adaptable is how he works since he doesn't have any more back up than Kay. He runs his hand through his hair, slightly messing up the neat hairstyle, but he's feeling vulnerable and hopeful. It would be nice to know about the possible allies he has here.
no subject
And that is why, without glancing toward Hera, Kanan opens his mouth to speak.
"Maybe."
That feeling of potential still hangs there, just out of reach, somewhere farther down the line.
"But not today."
no subject
But she looks from Kanan to Cassian, and smiles.
no subject
He'll take it for today and nods, "Another time, perhaps."
