No, make that The Devil is lounging on a couch. Looking perfectly comfortable in a designer suit and with a drink within easy reach.

There's a scruffy looking piece of rough coming up from the garage and heading to the bar for coffee. He spots the lounging man, taking in the expensive suit and the indolent smile with an appreciative look.

"Evening."

Lucifer looks up at him and smiles brightly.

"Hello," he says. "Is it evening already? Time does fly here."

English accent, friendly demenor. Dark, dark eyes.

"At least I think it is." Jay shrugs, ordering a drink. "Gotta admit it's easy to lose time down in the garage."

Cute, confident, cocky. Jay likes all these things. "Resent arrival? I don't think I've seen you around."

"I am. And I am already loving this place. "

He takes a sip of his drink.
"Interesting people, good food, reasonably priced alcohol. All of my favourite things. More or less."

"In that order?" Jay asks teasingly. "Mind if I join you?"

One person, at least, is watching him back.

Currently from the other side of the couch.

"Hello. Again."

"X. Hi."

He grins at her.

"This place is amazing. And not to worry. I've been very good and not broken any rules."

"That is good."

X's shoulders relax a fraction, which is sort of like her version of smiling.

"I do not like arresting my friends. And I do not think you would like mucking out stables."

She flicks a glance at his feet, then looks back to his face.

"Your shoes would not survive."

"And that would be a shame."

He sigbs.
"You're right. I an not really one for manual labor. And I don't suppose I could get Maze to come in and do it for me?"

Probably not.

"No."

X's response is prompt.

"I would distract her with sparring. So you could not even ask."

From what he has said about Maze, she is guessing that might be effective.

Graverobber's mostly just minding his own business at the bar top, reading a ratty, beat-up newspaper ("PLANS BEGIN FOR THIS YEAR'S GENETIC OPERA") and killing time while drinking a beer. He does eventually notice the guy in the nice suit watching the various patrons, including himself -- he nods a hello at him when he notices the pair of eyes on him. "Hey there."

Lucifer smiles at him, brightly.
"Hello," he says, sounding chipper and British.

"Hello," he says, sounding less chipper and American. Nodding at the nice designer clothes, Graverobber says, "Nice suit." Not that he'd know much about that sort of thing, judging by the fact that he wore basically the same clothes every day of his life.

"Thank you," Lucifer replies, straightening his lapels.
"I'm quite fond of it myself. And you're into more of an -upcycling aesthetic?"

"Cool. It works on you," he says. "Not sure upcycling is the right word. More of a 'I look like I live in a gutter because I actually live in a gutter' kind of a deal. It keeps the laundry bills down, though."

People watching is one of her favorite past times. And Milliways is a busy bar; there is always plenty to see and hear that is of interest.

For example: At a centrally-located table, there is what appears to be a well-dressed woman, skimming through the latest buzz on her tablet with one red-lacquered fingertip, and occasionally sipping her coffee. She is dressed in what would pass in 2017 as classy business formal, clearly made for her and well-made at that - a plum-colored blouse and narrow, grey pinstripe skirt, black pumps that show deep red underneath their high, narrow heels. Her relatively short hair could pass in nearly any decade of the twentieth or twenty-first century, and she could be anywhere from twenty-five to forty-five in age. She does not give the impression of being one who gets called 'a young woman,' and yet, she shows no sign of age. Her wide eyes are set off quite nicely by her high cheekbones, and the faint upward curl of the corner of her mouth.

While her tablet does seem to take up most of her attention, the woman is keeping enough of her attention on the room that when Lucifer's people-watching gaze happens to land on her, she lifts a hand to flutter her fingers at him in a good-natured wave.

Uh, a finger-fluttered wave. He likes those.

And he returns it with a bright smile and a small wave in return.

His clothes are obviously expensive, his shoes handsewn Italian leather. And he obviously spend more time on his looks than a quick shower and a comb through his hair.

Appearances, yes, those are important. How you look and the attitude with which you approach someone can do so much of the work for you, even before your first words serve to solidify the assumptions your appearance has planted in their mind.

And these days, bespoke business wear and powerful heels and striking features and authoritative accent colors serve much better than would the countless eyes and tongues and ears and feathers envisioned by the Romans.

One tailors oneself to the expectations of one's audience, always.

"Enjoying your evening?" She asks, those bright eyes at last glancing up from reports of the latest political gaffe threatening some career or other.

"Always," he replies with a smile.
He's got a handsome face.

It is not his face.

It is quite a handsome face he wears. One does always appreciate good design work.

"Good to hear," she replies, her smile making itself at home on her own face. "That's what this place is for, after all."

"Have you been coming here long? I believe I've noticed you around once or twice."

There is a tall man in black carrying an axe, walking into the bar from the back door with a small black cat on his shoulder.

Lucifer watches him with interest.
He appreciates when people go all in.

And the cat is a nice touch.

"Greetings," the grim dark man says, nodding to Lucifer.

[wayward_sun]

"Hello," he replies, smiling and lifting his glass.

"I was under the impression that people weren't supposed to walk around armed in here?"
There is no censure in his voice.
He is merely curios.

"They are merely not allowed," Teja says, "under the condition that one does violence with them. No violence, no outside business, no nudity or lewd behaviour in public spaces."
