Yamato has decided that he is weary of being small, but there's also not a huge amount he can do about it, so he's trying to make the best of it and find something to fill his time with.

Reading's out of the question, books don't come in tiny person size. Trying to watch television is oddly alarming when the television is several times the size of you. Anything that involves going upstairs is -- dubious, at best.

That leaves playing music, so he's settled on the edge of a table, legs dangling over the edge, playing a slow, jazz-ish melody on his harmonica. Gabumon's sat behind him, resting against his back, seemingly asleep.

"A hamonica, huh?" Baze says, after ascending a K'nex ladder to the top of Yamato's table. The giant--well, giant is relative, Baze is only a few inches tall--of a man grins at the two even smaller beings, offering a wave as he approaches them.

"Jawas hate harmonicas. They tend to freak out. You're good at playing it, though!"

"I'm not sure what a Jawa is," Yamato admits.

He pauses, rubbing the back of his neck. "I've had it since forever. It used to belong to my grandfather, they -- don't even manufacture this type of harmonica in Japan. Don't know what he thought he was doing giving it to a three year old who couldn't even play, but when Takeru was a baby it was just about the only way to stop him crying."

"A Jawa is a meter-tall humanoid creature who hide under brown robes. They're sentient, and are passionate scavengers. Their language uses scent as well as verbal components, so it's impossible to understand for anyone not a Jawa," Baze explains, settling in the lotus position on the table.

"Don't make them in Japan, huh? I wonder why that is. And no wonder you're so good, if you've been practicing since you were three! It was good of you to look out for your brother even then."

"... And they're scared of harmonicas," Yamato says. "D'you know why? I suppose if they can't talk to Jawas, they can't exactly tell you."

He looks slightly awkward at the compliment.

"He was a noisy crier and it was the quickest way to get him to stop. It's not that deep," he mutters.

There's so many people here uncomfortable with compliments! Baze has no idea why. But he's gone and made Yamato mutter, so the Jedhan decides to steer clear of that sort of thing.

"Oh, Jawas also have a trade language that they use for selling what they scavenge. Next time one walks in here, I'll ask them why they hate harmonicas."

Baze stretches his arms over his head, lacing his fingers together.

"Aren't all babies noisy criers? I admit I've had little experience."

"Probably. Most of them aren't noisy criers in my home where I can't get away from them, though. The place we were living at the time had the exact right acoustics t'make a loud noise deafening."

Which is a problem if you have a crying child or parents who argue loudly a lot, but only one of those can be harmonica'd into being quiet.

"Well, I'm glad he grew up a little and stopped being such a noisy crier," Baze says, his tone entirely sympathetic.

"Between Chirrut and me, I'm the one who cried all the time. He can't."

"He still cries plenty. But he's only eight, so that's not that surprising," Yamato says.

He cocks his head. "Because of his eyes, or ... ?"

"No, no, he's perfectly capable of crying, he just doesn't, not often," Baze says, holding up his hands.

"He's a stubborn bantha, is all."

"May I join you?" Sinric asks, holding a small wooden flute.

Yamato cracks open one eye, momentarily pausing in his playing.

Then: "I'm not stoppin' you."

Sinric nods, not put off by the brisk answer. He sits down the play, winding a harmony around the young man's song. He has a gift for improvising and is swift to pick up the tune and style.

Yamato shuts his eyes again, perfectly content to keep playing, moving through variations of the melody, each one departing a little more from the original tune, spinning it off in a slightly different direction.

At his back, Gabumon cracks open one bright red eye, watches Sinric for a moment, then shuts it.

Sinric keeps up, even making little shifts of his own to see if the young man can keep up with him. He rather loves this, the joy of just playing for his own pleasure.

Yamato doesn't seem to have any trouble keeping up, happy to engage in a back and forth of changing the melody.

After a little while, Gabumon starts tapping a claw against the table, providing something of a makeshift drum accompaniment.

Sinric smiles to Gabumon, offering him a nod of thanks for the rhythm as they play. He stares to layer greater complexity into the song, teasing and weaving.

Yamato immediately sees that as a challenge, and starts to respond in kind, shifting the tune he's playing so that it's an entirely different melody that harmonises with the one Sinric's playing, the two overlapping and playing off each other to create something completely new.

He may also start speeding up, bit by bit, just to see if Sinric can keep up.

Cassian doesn't like being this small, it reminds him too much of when he was a boy and hiding. When he hears Yamato playing, he makes his way over and stares for a moment at how its little boy Yamato. This must be even harder as a child and sits down to listen.

Yamato pauses playing for a moment, cracking an eye open.

"What're you lookin' at?"

"I'm enjoying your playing," The music is a nice piece of calm in the middle of everything.

[angry_friendship_wolf]

"Well, there's not a lot else I can do while we're all fun-sized."

[childofrebellion]

"No, but Cisco seems to be making progress on repairing the machine."

[angry_friendship_wolf]

"Yeah? How close is he to finishing it?"

[childofrebellion]

"I don't know exact numbers but it seems like there are fewer problems."

[angry_friendship_wolf]

"And yet, we're still tiny," Yamato says. "What kinda problems are there?"
