So the other day, Dad sat Brooke and her siblings down and had a very important discussion about something called 'Drugs' and why they were bad and if anyone offered them to you you had to say no and tell a trustworthy adult.

Her older brother and sister took this very seriously. Dad wasn't sure that Brooke was taking it seriously, but he said if she made a poster he'd buy her her own supply of glitter to use in the bar, which was apparently a decent bribe.

Currently, the glitter is all over the table, on top of the poster which so far reads:

'Drugs are bad
SAY NO!!!
Or yore nose will fall off
And then how will you SMELL?
AWFUL!'

Graverobber will not harass the small adorable child who he immediately presumes is one of Guppy’s kids, but boy does that give him a double-take when he walks into the bar.

Brooke spots him, and recognises him from Dad's photo.

She decides not to go and ask him questions because she likes her nose. Apparently this was the most memorable part of the conversation with Dad.

Well that's a thing.

Noriko looks at the poster as she comes downstairs, head cocked over to read the eye-searingly pink and sparkly words.

"Pretty sure drugs won't make your nose fall off, kiddo," Nori says reasonably. "That's usually things like Hansen's Disease, and you gotta work at getting that. Sure, coke might give you a nosebleed, but if you're shoving the cannula that far up your nose you're doing it wrong."

Brooke looks vaguely disappointed. That fact that she was half listening to was the most interesting bit.

"Well I'm not starting again, I have better things to do with my time." she says.

"Do you do drugs?"

"Depends on what kind of drugs you mean," she says equably. "The kind that are useful to me and don't do me harm, yeah. As you can see, though, nose is perfectly fine and still attached."

She demonstrates. "Do you ever take medicine?"

"I mean illegal ones." Brooke says. "Not calpol. I understand the difference. Dad went on and on and on and on and on and on."

"Think about it, though," Noriko replies. "It's a drug, and it does something to you that you find beneficial, doesn't it? The fact that some people don't like the effects other compounds have isn't nearly enough of a good reason to discount people who use them wholecloth."

There are a lot of hard words in that explanation, some of which she's unfamiliar with, but she picks up the gist.

"So basically you do do illegal drugs." Brooke says.

She tips the pink glitter over her sign. "You probably best not tell Dad, he's already got his panties in a twist about the Graverobber."

"Yeah, I smoke cannabis. but I told you I did drugs that were useful to me," she says, mildly amused.

"I don't do it indoors or around children, because whether or not you get high is not my legal decision to make, nor something I want responsibility for." Noriko shrugs.

[brooke_sandhu]

"Because something bad could happen?" Brooke asks, raising an eyebrow.

She tips the excess glitter off the poster onto the table.

"There's a chance you could be allergic, but there's also a chance you could be allergic to anything," Nori replies. "I don't avoid it because of that possibility. I avoid it because your decisions are your dad's problem, not mine."

[brooke_sandhu]

Brooke scrapes the rest of the glitter back in the pot.

"I don't care if you do drugs or not." she says. "I only made the poster because Dad said I could have glitter."

"Aren't you a logical little psychopath," she mutters. "Just in it for the glitter?"

[brooke_sandhu]

Brooke narrows her eyes.

"What did you call me? What does that mean?"

[electro_kinetic]

"Psychopath, it means--colloquially speaking--someone unstable and prone to aggression," she says. "Which you certainly seem to be fitting, given the poster."

[brooke_sandhu]

Brooke glares at her. Then suddenly pulls a very innocent expression.

"Yes Daddy, it was the big pretty girl with the blue hair that called me names and told me drugs were okay." she says in a sweet voice.

Noriko--who was not a stranger to that act herself as a child--leans down with an equally sweet and somewhat more amused smile.

"And exactly what is your daddy gonna do to me, sweetheart? Slap me on the wrist and say I've been bad?"

Brooke won't actually tell on her. She doesn't like tell tales.

"Be a pain in the bum." she says. "Nag nag responsibility, nag nag morals..."

[electro_kinetic]

"You say that like I haven't had bigger pains in the ass than him since I was fourteen," Noriko says. "Your morals and responsibilities, since they happy do not intersect with my world, are even more happily not my problem."

She looks over the poster. "Might want to stick some rainbows or unicorns or something on that."

[brooke_sandhu]

"Nah, I'm going to go train when I'm done." Brooke says.

[electro_kinetic]

"Oh, this I have to hear, what are you training for?" she asks.

[brooke_sandhu]

"I have a big match next week." Brooke says.

[electro_kinetic]

Noriko cocks her head. "In what discipline?"

[brooke_sandhu]

"Ice hockey. I'm the goaltender for the Holby Newts."

[electro_kinetic]

"You good at it?"

[brooke_sandhu]

"The goaltender has to be as good as the rest of the team put together." Brooke says.

[electro_kinetic]

"Pretty sure the goalkeeper only has to be quicker than whoever's firing the shot," Nori says. "But whatever helps you sleep."

[brooke_sandhu]

"There's twenty on a team." Brooke says. "I have to be faster than all of them, five at once, and I have to be on the ice the whole game when they get to change over. And I still have to be able to pass as well as they do. So actually yeah, I am good at it, and that's why I'm the goaltender."
