Enzo drops off the invitations with Bar, then orders a Cocoa and relaxes for a bit. It's been a while; he's been busy.

Autor receives the invitation and spots Enzo at the bar. "Hello, Enzo. I'm not quite sure I understand this invitation, but congratulations anyway."

"Thanks! It's just name, number of people like if you're bringing a plus-one, which ceremony you want to attend, and who wants what for their meal. You still up for being an usher?"

[herr_bookman]

"Absolutely," Autor says, eyeing the invitation. "This makes a little more sense now. Should I just leave it with Bar, or should I just hand it to you now?"

[a1enzo]

"Either's fine. How've you been?"

[herr_bookman]

"I've been well, thanks for asking. I'm planning to go to medical school, and am working towards that end," Autor says, nodding thoughtfully. "How about you?"

[a1enzo]

"No kidding! That's awesome! I'm good, I've been adjusting to my new system. I finally got my for-real posting!"

[herr_bookman]

"Did you! Well, good for you. Where are you posted?" Autor says, tilting his head.

[a1enzo]

"System Diggs. It's a server in the northwestern US, maybe Seattle? Somewhere around there, anyway. It serves a medium-sized subnet. There's six of us plus our dispatchers."

"Excellent," Autor says, adjusting his glasses. "So you've met who you'll be working with?"

[a1enzo]

"Yeah, we've been getting to know each other. They're mostly pretty nice. Well, I mean, Diode's gruff, and Ruby's like sarcasm incarnate... and Tilde's honestly kinda scary... but it's cool."

[herr_bookman]

"Lots of disparate personalities," Autor says, shaking his head. "Can you work with them?"

[a1enzo]

"Doing okay so far. Of course, it's usually only one or two of us on any given job."

[herr_bookman]

"And your job is to protect the system?" Autor says, tilting his head.

[a1enzo]

"The whole subnet. We’re stationed in the server, and if any of our client systems have a problem, we zoom out to take care of it."

[herr_bookman]

"Are you still playing games?" Autor says, furrowing his brow.

[a1enzo]

"Some, yeah. Part of our function's also to train the locals to be able to handle that, though, in case we’re all busy with stuff they can’t."

[herr_bookman]

"Ah, I see," Autor says, adjusting his glasses. "How big is the subnet?"

[OOC: Curse you, perfectly reasonable questions!]

"31 systems. Mostly pretty normal, a few problem children."

[herr_bookman]

"What makes them problem children?" Autor says, blinking at him.

[a1enzo]

“Well, one system is just constant errors. It’s a really old system, I bet on the User plane it’s held together with duct tape. A couple just keep downloading viruses, and one gets so many Games I don’t know when their User sleeps.”

[herr_bookman]

"What does an error look like to you?" Autor says, adjusting his glasses.

[a1enzo]

"We usually call them tears." (Tear as in rip, not as in weeping.) "They're like big crackling balls of energy, and they're, well, tears in cyberspace. They can actually be stabilized into temporary portals, which is useful, but they're pretty dangerous when they're unstable."

[herr_bookman]

"Portals to where?" Autor says, wrinkling his nose.

[a1enzo]

"Anywhere in cyberspace. A destination of your choosing if you make the portal right, otherwise just wherever the tear was already leading."

[herr_bookman]

"And these portals are temporary?" Autor says, furrowing his brow.

[a1enzo]

"Yeah, but if you're equipped to make one in the first place, you can usually find a way to make a return portal if you need one."

Usually. Things have been known to go wrong.

"How do you make a portal out of a tear?" Autor says, adjusting his glasses.

[a1enzo]

"That's where it gets technical, sorry."

[herr_bookman]

"Yes, I probably wouldn't understand anyway," Autor says, nodding thoughtfully.

[a1enzo]

"So hey, medical school! How did that happen?"

[herr_bookman]

"Well, I'm not going to school yet. First I have to make enough money to go there," Autor says, nodding thoughtfully. "But I've decided to become a doctor because I want to help people."

[a1enzo]

"That's seriously awesome. Does that mean you've got that sense of purpose back?"

[herr_bookman]

Autor blinks. "I suppose that I do. I hadn't thought about that before, but I think you're right."

[a1enzo]

"That's fantastic. I'm really glad for you. It's a good purpose, too. And that means you can finally visit cyberspace, if you want."

[herr_bookman]

"Thanks," Autor says, inclining his head. "I'd love to visit cyberspace."

[a1enzo]

“You can even come to both weddings if you want. I mean, if you want to sit through two weddings.”

He will not blame him if he doesn’t.

[herr_bookman]

"I think one is good enough. Thanks for the invitation, though. Which one would you prefer me to seat people at?" Autor says, nodding thoughtfully.

[a1enzo]

"The Earth one, I think. We ought to be pretty well covered in Mainframe."

[herr_bookman]

"All right," Autor says, inclining his head. "And that's the one on the beach?"

[a1enzo]

"Yeah, in Chile. We're not making anyone wear a tux on the beach, just a nice button shirt and slacks or something. Here's the colour scheme." He pops up a pair of swatches in mint green and lavender. "White or khaki is fine for the slacks."

[herr_bookman]

"White slacks and a lavender button down, got it," Autor says, looking over the swatches. "Why'd you choose those colors?"

[a1enzo]

"Dani's purple as a sprite. And we just liked them."

[herr_bookman]

"Fair enough," Autor says, nodding thoughtfully. "That's as good a reason as any to choose colors. I know little about wedding traditions.""

[a1enzo]

“Well, we’ve had three siblings between us get married already. We may not be the most traditional couple, but we know more or less how it goes.”

[herr_bookman]

"Well, hopefully that means that will cut down on surprises for the actual day," Autor says, nodding. "Or days, rather."

[a1enzo]

"Day. One very busy day. But the Earth wedding's second, and it should be pretty chill, and then we can all go swimming."

[herr_bookman]

"That will be fun. Just stop by the bar to collect us," Autor says, inclining his head.

[a1enzo]

"That's the plan."
