The Doctor is In

Guppy is sitting in his usual booth, near the door that leads off to the infirmary.

In the absence of current patients, he's eating a ham and cheese toastie and having a cup of tea, but either can be interrupted.

Here's a current patient. Autor comes over to Guppy from the bar, looking bruised and battered. He has an ice pack gingerly pressed to his nose, which is black and blue and looks broken. "Hi, Guppy. Do you have the bone fuser available?"

"I do, depending on how old that injury is." Guppy says. "What happened?"

[herr_bookman]

"Fight club," Autor says, as if that explains everything. It sort of does. "And it's a couple of hours old."

[guppy_sandhu]

"Okay, you're going to need to wait for the swelling to go down a bit before we fuse it." Guppy says, taking a look. "Normally at home that takes days to a week but we can speed it up here. Were you knocked out?"

[herr_bookman]

"No," Autor says, with a small measure of pride in his voice. "Just beat on. I'm bruised from head to toe. It was worth it."

[guppy_sandhu]

"Did you win?" Guppy asks, giving him a small smile and getting up to lead him through to the infirmary.

[herr_bookman]

"I did," Autor says, with no trace of shyness. "But since he broke my nose, I consider the match a tie."

[guppy_sandhu]

"Who were you sparring?" Guppy asks.

"It's good to have an outlet." he adds. "I'm glad we have Fight Club for that now."

[herr_bookman]

"Yamato," Autor says, settling on one of the beds in the infirmary with a wince. He removes the ice pack from his nose, and strips of his tank top. His chest and ribs are painted with bruises.

[guppy_sandhu]

"Looks like he needed an outlet too." Guppy says, getting Autor something for the swelling.

[herr_bookman]

"Yes," Autor says, taking whatever Guppy gives him. "He's had a lot happen to him recently. Him and his partner Digimon."

[guppy_sandhu]

"Sorry to hear that." Guppy says.

"How have you been keeping? Any luck with medical school?"

[herr_bookman]

"I haven't gone back to my world yet," Autor says, shrugging--which makes him wince when the movement pulls on his brusies. "I'm in France in my world, and I need to travel by train back to Germany. Once I'm there, I'll need to convince my mother to come to America with me."

Here's another current patient! Baze looks worse than he ever has, with bruises covering every inch of skin exposed by his Guardian's robes. He's got his staff slung over his right shoulder and is favoring his left arm.

For all that, he still has a smile on his face, even though said face is more pale than normal.

"Hoi, Guppy! May the Force of others be with you! Mind if I use the bone fuser?"

"Not at all, want some help?" Guppy asks. "Hard to do it on yourself."

"Sure, help would be great!" Baze says cheerfully, grinning from ear to ear.

"Thanks. I'm pretty beat up from Fight Club."

[guppy_sandhu]

"I'll have to start doing clinic after Fight Club more often." Guppy gets up.

Baze follows him into the infirmary, moving gingerly. He's stiff and sore, and no doubt has at least three cracked ribs in addition to the busted arm. Logan and X like to kick people in the torso.

Still, he smiles.

"Yeah, that's probably a good idea. I know I'm not the only one sporting injuries."

[guppy_sandhu]

"Do you want the fuser or do you want to go in the tank?" Guppy asks.

[iprotectyou]

"The fuser, definitely. The tank can't heal a broken bone all the way. And I earned these bruises fair and square, so I'll be turning the tank down, in general. Thanks, though!" Baze says, walking through the logic of his decision out loud.

[guppy_sandhu]

"Fair enough." Guppy says.

"What do you want fusing?"

"My arm, here, and whatever ribs I broke," Baze says, hoisting up his arm.

[guppy_sandhu]

"Should be easy enough." Guppy says. "You'll have to keep really still for the ribs, though, it's harder because you have to breathe in and out."

[iprotectyou]

"Maybe I can hold my breath, and we can do one rib at a time?" Baze says, already feeling dizzy.

"We'll do that in short bursts." Guppy says. "It'll take a couple of minutes per rib in total."
