Graverobber's chilling at the bar top enjoying a cold beer, doing his thing. It's been a busy summer of wheeling and dealing and stealing, so he's glad for a moment to just sit and have a little alcoholic wheat juice to relax with.

At least until he feels a sharp stinging in his neck that knocks him out of his relaxed state, making him shout "MotherFUCKER" in a much louder voice than was probably necessary. He tries to smack at the bug but it's already flown away, leaving no evidence of its existence apart from the sting mark on Graverobber's skin.

Weirdly, as he sits down, his first thought isn't about the bug, but about his cursing. Did he just shout foul language in a public place? What a rude thing to do. Hm.

"Could you be executed for peddling your wares?" Hawkeye says, her sharp-eyed gaze settling on him.

"Yup. 'Graverobbers will be executed on sight'. They put up posters in cemeteries and everything blaring the fact," he says. "Lots of people get taken down that way."

"Since the risk is so high and you don't appear to particularly like what you're doing, why do it?" Hawkeye says, signing off on another requisition form.

"Normally I do like it," he says, and that does strike him as odd -- why is he feeling so different right now? -- but he shakes it off for the moment. Maybe it was just a mood. "And I ain't got a ton of options, I live on the street. Need a way to make money somehow."

Hawkeye blinks at him, her pen resting in between her fingers. "Normally you do?"

"Yeah. I mean, I don't like the getting shot part, but I can usually take pride in doing my job right," he says, shaking his head slightly because that idea feels so weirdly foreign to him. Why would he be like that? Lord. "I'm just in a weird mood today."

"That's quite strange," Hawkeye says, setting her pen down. "I wonder why you feel that way now. You've never felt this before?"

"Not off the top of my head," he says, thinking back on it. There's times where he's been stressed or frustrated or angry about what he does, sure, but never really ashamed of it. He's always justified it as a minor evil, and a necessary one to keep himself alive. But that line of thinking feels alien to him now. "I don't know, I always justified it to myself in the past. Doesn't feel as justifiable right now, though."

"I wonder what changed," Hawkeye says, a tiny furrow appearing between her brows. "Is the change so severe you'll have to find another way of making ends meet?"

Graverobber frowns and thinks about it. "I don't think so?" he says. He still knows what to do and all, he didn't forget any of that. It's just his attitude that changed. "I mean, I think I just dislike it more, I can still do the job."

"No one ever said you had to like your job to do it properly," Hawkeye agrees, faintly dry. "But it does help."

[quick_clean_pure]

"Yeah. I mean, whatever's going on, I'll probably feel more myself by the time I gotta go back on another run," he reasons. "If I like it normally and all."

"So, you believe this new change in attitude is due to Milliways being odd?" Hawkeye says, folding her hands together on the bar.

"...maybe?" he says, because he wasn't sure. He'd been through weird shit in the bar before but it was usually way more dramatic. "I mean, why would the bar just randomly make me dislike my job?"

Hawkeye doesn't move. Whether she gives the impression of shrugging without actually doing so is up to Graverobber. "I have no idea. No one has objected to what you do so far here?"
