One of the benefits of Milliways is the ability to take a break from stressful real life circumstances and hide out here for a while. It's not one Hera and Kanan avail themselves of often, because a full half of their crew can't exactly join them, but after the past few weeks . . .

Something like a break is very, very welcome.

Which is why they're both sprawled, shoeless and trying to be comfortable, in the sand of the Caribbean inlet. Every so often Kanan eyes Hera as if he'd like to splash her but doesn't quite dare. When he isn't looking in her direction, Hera has been sliding her feet closer and closer to the water.

Kanan's definitely not going to see it coming.

Cassian's been working and knows he needs a rest, when he finds Milliways, he heads outside. Too many days inside going over intel and planning possible missions.

When he sees Hera and Kanan, he makes his steps louder, so they're not surprised and waves when he's close enough for them to see him.

There's only so loud footsteps on sand can be, but Kanan looks up anyway, lifting one hand to wave back at Cassian.

"Take off your shoes," he calls out. "And have a seat."

Hera follows Kanan's movement, looking up over his shoulder.

"How are you, Cassian?"

He nods at the invitation and gets his boots off and comes to join them. The warm sand feels nice between his toes.

"Busy but fairly well. How about you?"

"Claiming downtime," Kanan says with a smile.

"By force, if necessary."

Hera gives Kanan a look of mock offense.

"I haven't tried to drag you back to the ship once."

"From the reports I've heard, its well earned downtime." Cassion gives Kanan a thoughtful look, to him being on a ship is restful.

"I resent the implication that downtime has to be earned," Kanan says (but he's grinning).

Hera, however, puts her hand on Kanan's arm.

"Do reports say that?"

Cassian shifts his toes in the sand and says quietly, he understands a desire for privacy.

"In so many words. I don't have much experience with downtime, mine usually comes with an injury."

Kanan's smile falls away when Hera rests her hand on his arm.

His focus is all on Cassian now.

"Sorry to hear that," he says, and he means it. But --

"But going back again to the 'in so many words' part."

Hera blinks from Kanan to Cassian.

Choosing her words carefully, she says, "It's all right."

Her tone attempts to balance between it's all right to say more and it's all right not to.

(OOC: If this is more than you want him to know. I can change it.)

He sits up straighter as he looks between them, his voice neutral. "There was mention of some close calls."

Which is true, he went looking to find out more of what happened because he knows them and wanted to know. The reports he found didn't have a lot of detail but enough that he could make some guesses.

"Yeah, well."

Kanan exhales.

"It goes with the territory."

"And we got through it."

That part often doesn't go with the territory.

"It does, but you clearly have a resourceful crew. You did and now there's more hope to go around."

Now he allows himself to relax slightly, putting the intelligence officer away.

"We've all got to keep the galaxy turning somehow," Kanan says, relaxing back into the sand a little.

"And it's always good if there's a little more hope out there," Hera adds.

"Yes, there is." Cassian closes his eyes before saying. "I heard that message in the middle of a mission kriffed up by that traitor and it got me through a long, cold night."

"That's what we were hoping it'd do," Kanan says quietly.

"It's good to hear it reached so far out."

She'd had some idea of it, from what Ahsoka had told her, but...

"It did. We've needed something like that and its making changes."

He opens his eyes with a small smile.

"Good ones, I hope," Kanan says, voice still soft.

Hera's hoping that too.

She didn't get the impression every change was entirely good.

"Yes, some good ones. It takes time to see all the ripples."

And while in some ways the Empire can be predictable, they're not always reliable.
