The group is packing up camp to move to the eastern shore of File Island and start work on a raft to take them to Server, and that means the end of the leisurely trip they've had so far and the drawing up of rotas and duty rosters.
All of which largely falls under Yamato's duties as second-in-command, which is why he's set himself up at a booth with a mug of coffee and a whole load of sheets of paper with grids drawn up on them: Hours of the day at the top, and sixteen names (eight humans, eight Digimon) down the right hand side.
He's scribbling in jobs, allotting out time and manpower to collecting wood for the raft, collecting wood for fires, waterproofing the raft wood, raft construction, collecting fish to eat, collecting fruit and vegetables, laundry duty, cooking duty, guard duty, along with a half dozen other tasks. Every member of the team has different skills and limitations, and with only sixteen of them -- six of which don't even have hands -- efficiency is key if they want to set sail anytime soon.
Which might be why he's increasingly looking like he's losing patience with the task, taking bigger gulps of coffee in the hopes that a burst of caffeine will give him motivation to get it all done.

On his way to the counter, he sees Yamato and walks over. "What are you working on?"
no subject
He moves around some of the papers, scribbling a note on one.
"So, we've got rotas for people collecting materials, constructing a raft, waterproofing, getting food, laundry, cooking, guard duty, maintaining the camp, stuff like that," he says. "But everyone has different skillsets, and some people are exempt from stuff. Jyou, for example, gets an automatic exemption from any duty that'd stop him getting a full night's sleep or take him away from camp. Taichi's sister is exempt from anything that's physically strenuous, which is -- most of the stuff we have to do, actually."

He shakes his head.
"That means mixing a sealant to waterproof everything -- something only Koushiro and I can do, and which we'll need literal barrels of. It means a deck that's sturdy enough to stand seven or eight days on the high seas and big enough that eight people and eight Digimon can sit on it. It means supplies for the whole trip, not just food and water but also repair supplies, which means the raft needs to be even bigger, which means more material, more work to make it sturdy, and more sealant."
Beat.
"I'm ranting. Sorry."

Food helps with this kind of work, provides enough energy for a few more hours.

He gives Cassian a quick glance, smiling slightly. "Not yet. If that's you trying to prompt me into eating something, I guess I can take ten minutes and have whatever you're having."

When a rat comes by, Cassian orders a caf for himself and dinner for both of them.

The rat returns soon with a tray full of different kinds of sandwiches.

A truly terrible fate.
He takes one of the sandwiches, gnawing on it lightly while half paying attention to his work.
no subject
He also gets a sandwich, its been a while since he ate.

He pinches the bridge of his nose.
"We're moving camp over to the eastern shore to start work on a raft to take us to Server. So, it's my job to put together a duty roster for everyone."
He taps his pen against the page, frowning. "Do people really need sleep? Sleep's definitely more of a luxury thing, right?"

"But everyone's got different things they can do. Jyou's exempt from being a night guard, or anything that takes him away from camp. Taichi's sister gets an automatic exemption from any heavy physical labour for health reasons. Koushiro and I are the only ones who know how to make sealant, and Mimi is banned from cooking duty forever after several incidents involving food poisoning."

He shakes his head. "We can make a pretty good sealant out of those, but it's a complicated, delicate process, and the two of us are the only ones who know how to do it. If we hand it off to someone else and they get it wrong, we won't have enough to waterproof the whole raft."

"I'm not exactly ready to have the 'magic bar' talk with the others yet, and one of them will figure out something's wrong if I start producing supplies they know aren't on the island."
Beat.
Gruffly: "Besides, I have a policy against relying on this place too much. Breeds complacency."

"Not long. Storing it is a problem," he says, back to being gruff again. "But that just means everything needs to be done in order. Chop down the wood, make the sealant, apply it, build."

"Six. Five of the Digimon don't have hands, and the ones who do are tiny, so six people who can chop wood," he says. "If this was a short journey, that'd be fine, but the trip takes a week, so we need a large and sturdy raft, and we also need provisions to last, so some people are going to have to be on fishing and foraging duty every day."
Beat.
"So, Takeru, Hikari, and Mimi, probably, which leaves me, Taichi, Sora, and Koushiro on wood-chopping."
