AU Week Kickoff Happy Hour

According to the board, tonight’s Happy Hour special is Breakfast for Dinner. The menu includes all the items one might expect - coffee, eggs, pancakes, toast, etc. It also includes an assurance that the coffee is REAL COFFEE NOT COFFIUM, and a note at the bottom that says NO CHARGE FOR ANYTHING.

The barkeep tonight is a young woman with short blond hair, heavily-made-up blue eyes, and a punk-appropriate wardrobe. She wears a black T-shirt that says EAT THE ZOTTAS in huge sparkly pink block letters. She is enjoying a cup of coffee (not coffium).

A free happy hour gets Cassian's attention and he walks over with his book, he's wearing Yavin University Engineering: powered by caffeine t-shirt. "That looks good. Could I get a breakfast with some of everything?"

“Sure,” YT says, and starts doing something complicated with multiple pans and eggs and bread and stuff. Somehow she works in pouring coffee and setting the mug down in front of Cassian. “Do you take cream or sugar or anything?”

She's efficient, he's impressed, its not easy to cook all those things at once. "No, I take it black. Thanks."

It’s all a matter of knowing how long things have to cook and what sequence to do them in.

“Hey, you and me got something in common. You want cranberry juice, orange juice, apple juice, or all of the above?”

"None of them, coffee's all I need." He knows, he cooks and he can appreciate skill. "I'm Cassian."

“YT,” she says, stirring the eggs and flipping the turkey bacon and toast in quick succession. “So you’re studying to be an engineer?” Yes, she read his shirt. The shirt also strongly hinted that she should lead with coffee, which is why she did it.

"Nice to meet you. Yes, I want to work in civil engineering, build a world that will last." Cassian sips his coffee and smiles, its so good here.

Alec slides himself onto a stool, smiling at the special. He pushes the sleeves of his dark (maybe it was green once?) sweater, revealing forearms inked all over with runic characters.

"What if it's breakfast time at home? Is the special Dinner for Breakfast, or can I still get some pancakes?"

“I’m pretty sure you’re allowed to have pancakes,” YT says. “You want them with chocolate chips or fruit or anything?”

YT is fully equipped for all kinds of pancakes.

Alec considers for a moment. Something about the bar's infinite menu always makes him hesitant, like he should make the most of the possibility. "Could you do a rhubarb pancake?"

“Never done that before, but I’ll give it a shot.” YT goes into the kitchen to get some of the garden vegetables. She returns with red stalks of rhubarb, which she starts chopping up. “Those are bitchin’ tats, by the way. What do they represent?”

"Thanks! If they don't turn out, we'll both have learned something." Alec works with teenagers. It shows sometimes.

He glances down at his arms and back again. "They're reminders," he says mildly. "Of things I need to work on."

“So your tattoo artist is also your therapist?” YT asks wryly. She gets out a big mixing bowl of batter and ladles some of it into a smaller mixing bowl so she can add the rhubarb in.

Alec laughs. "My tattoo artist asks me if I couldn't, please, just once, pick a skull or a rose or a heart with, and I quote, 'some chick's name on it'."

Sam approaches and studies the board long enough for it to make sense to him.

"Breakfast sounds perfect. No tea though?"

"Shit, I knew I forgot something." YT smacks her forehead. "I think I can find some tea back here though. And I got a kettle."

Sam offers a serene smile. "I wouldn't want to be a bother, but I would appreciate it just the same. Coffee is too bold for me I am afraid."

“S’okay. I think I saw some tea back here.” YT ducks down to search the shelves behind the bar and comes up with a little tin of powdered sencha. “How’s this?”

Sona wanders over to the bar, empty coffee up in hand. She smiles at the menu. "What is the most ridiculously sugary, artificially flavoured cereal you have?"

“Lucky Charms,” YT says. “You want it in chocolate milk, just for the extra sugar factor?”

"Just the cereal I think." She muses. "I'm after more of a snack than a meal."

“Okay then.” YT gets a bowl and a box of Lucky Charms, and decants some of the contents of the latter into the former. “Hearts, stars, horseshoes, clovers, balloons, and whatever else they’ve got in there.”

"Just what a girl needs." She laughs warmly, "Sugar and luck. I'm Sona, by the way."

“I’m YT,” YT says. “I’d say you need sugar, luck, some lockpicking tools and something to transport your haul in, but that’s just me.”

Thaf’s what YT needs to do her work, anyhow.

"Lockpicks I have. And a copied key. As for transport, I have a yacht waiting. What I need is someone who has a better understanding of inheritance laws in England. Most of the paperwork I have is in very intentionally baffling legaleze."
