 Phoenix had been spending his day off baking cookies. Something about the holidays coming up put him in the mood.

He comes out, a tray of fresh baked cookies in hand, and finds himself not in his apartment, but in the bar.

Phoenix glances down at a note left on the counter.

"Um...sure, I guess so. I've got time."

<i>What good are cookies if there's no one to eat them, anyway? </i>

He sets up behind the counter, and writes on the specials board:

"Did you bake these yourself?" Yamato asks as he wanders over, hands in his pockets.

He's got his work with him, a stack of supply and logistics logs that he needs to finish working through, which he sets down delicately on the bartop.

"Hey there, Yamato!" Phoenix gives a little wave. "Yeah, I had the day off, so I figured, why not?"

He glances at the stack of papers. "You seem to be keeping busy."

"I had no idea you could bake. Clearly I underestimated you," Yamato chuckles, reaching for a cookie.

He gives the papers a sour glance. "Our fearless leader has ordered us to make a rendezvous with his side of the team in five days. I need to get the supplies and route figured out before we set off."

[take_that]

Phoenix chuckles right back. "I can't, really. All I can manage are cookies. I'd bake them in college during late-night study sessions."

His eyes widen. "That sounds like a lot of responsibility."

[angry_friendship_wolf]

"Well, if your baking repertoire is only going to have one thing in it, there's worse picks than cookies," Yamato jokes, arching an eyebrow.

He glances down at his papers, shrugging awkwardly. "It's boring logistical work. Important, I guess, but more dull than difficult."

"That's true."

Phoenix snorts. "Believe me, I know what you mean. Most of my job is paperwork." On the quieter cases, at least.

"Taichi doesn't care much about a paper trail, so all the paper-y stuff is just so I have it to hand if I need to reference it. He seems to think I can just pluck all our logs and plans from memory."

Which Yamato can, usually, but that's hardly the point.

"Is Taichi your...leader, then?"

[angry_friendship_wolf]

"Yeah. He's kind of an idiot, to be honest, more hair than brains," Yamato says, rather fondly. "But he's a good leader. Good at getting people to follow him even when his ideas are batshit insane."

[take_that]

"Yeah, I know a few people like that." Maya, Gumshoe, Larry - we're all a bunch of idiots who somehow make it work.

[angry_friendship_wolf]

"My least favourite kind of person," Yamato says, although his tone may belie that that's not really true. He adores Taichi, after all, and most of the Chosen have a streak of idiocy a mile wide -- including him.

He finally takes a bite of his cookie, gnawing on it thoughtfully. After a second: "These are actually really good."

Even without the Magatama on him, Phoenix can practically see the psychelocks slide into place. He can hear the affection in Yamato's voice.

Phoenix grins. "Thanks. I'd bake them in college when I was procrastinating on assignments."

"That must've made you popular with the other students."

The only thing students love more than an excuse not to work is an excuse not to work and eat cookies.

"Is there a secret to the recipe?"

Cassian's rolling his shoulders as he comes in, he's been sitting for too long but the fresh baked smell draws him to the counter, "Those smell delicious."

Phoenix smiles at the man as he approaches. "They're fresh out of the oven."

"What kind are they and what's the occasion for making them?" The man behind the counter doesn't seem like he's always baking.

[take_that]

"No real occasion. I had the day off, and I hadn't done it in a while." Not since college, come to think of it.

[childofrebellion]

"A day off, that sounds nice. What do you do when you're not baking?"

[take_that]

"I'm a defense attorney. And you?"

[childofrebellion]

"A pilot, I've got a small ship and do cargo and passengers." Defense attorney is one of those jobs where the heart of it seems good but Cassian's seem them misused by the Empire.

[take_that]

"A pilot, huh? Bet you've been to some neat places."

[childofrebellion]

"I have, its a big galaxy and there's always someplace that I haven't been before."

Though often he gets into a routine checking in on his informants, "Where are you from?"

[take_that]

"Galaxy?"

I guess he doesn't mean airplane pilot... Yamato had mentioned a few patrons from space, but he hadn't met any yet.

"I'm from Los Angeles, in California." Does he know where that is?

"Yes, I've heard of that city. Most of the patrons here are from Earths."

Cassian knows he's rare being from another planet, which is odd to him.

"So I'm guessing you're a spaceship pilot, then?"
