Sameth has taken over a table and covered it with the pieces of various kitchen gadgets. He never knew there could be so many kinds of wafflemakers or ways to make sandwiches.

At the moment, he has an all in one egg sandwich maker taken apart and he's trying to figure out the non-stick coating.

"Is there a lot to read? I know in the Old Kingdom we have books of knowledge like the Book of Death but they're rare. And not everyone can actually read them,"

And the Book of Remembering, they don't have prophecies in them but he knows they're not the same for everyone.

"It covers the walls of a pretty labyrinthine temple, so yeah, a lot. And none of it is in order anyway, or at least not any order I can decipher, so that doesn't help."

"In a temple, has anyone copied it down?"

"Not in its entirety. Apparently in at least one other world it's in a book, though."

"Do multiple worlds connect to yours? There's only Ancelstierre and the Old Kingdom in mine and possibly Death but that's not the same."

"Yeah, there are eight worlds in total in my, er, world."

"Eight, how hard is it to go from one to another?"

"It's not something most people can do. You need to be able to open a Gate and pass through it, and even then the Gates aren't exactly cooperative."

"They want people to stay where they're from." That makes sense to Sameth, its not easy going into Death for that reason.

"More like they're machines that are operating on default settings and can't be changed," Yamato says mildly. "If we take a Gate from Earth to the Digital World, it always connects to the File Island Gate. And no matter what Gate we take to get back, it always connects to the Gate we came from."

"That makes sense. There are places like that in the Old Kingdom but its mainly connected to your bloodline if you can enter. Though everyone can use the gate between the Old Kingdom and Ancelstierre."

"Are the Old Kingdom and Ancelstierre separate worlds, then, or are they more like -- different places with different rules?"

"Separate worlds, the seasons move differently depending on where you are and there's no Charter in Ancelstierre."

"That's pretty cool. And it's the first I've heard of a world that functions similarly to mine."

"Considering Milliways, I would have expected it to be more common."

"You'd be surprised. Worlds with a bunch of planets seem pretty common, but worlds with a bunch of different dimensions -- at least ones that aren't just splits in the timeline -- don't seem to show up all that frequently."

"No or worlds where the magic is inherent to how the world works,"

He's often had times of having trouble explaining how the Old Kingdom and the Charter fit together.

"Yeah, magic does seem to usually be a kind of -- add-on," Yamato remarks. "Something that a lot of people use, but the world would keep on ticking if it was gone."

"Yes, while without the Charter, there wouldn't be an Old Kingdom. Everyone is connected to it," Sameth moves his hair to show the Charter mark there.

Yamato cocks his head, eyeing the Charter mark. It almost reminds him of a Crest. Almost.

"So if the Charter went away, the Old Kingdom would just vanish?"

"I don't think it would be that gentle, the Old Kingdom would be destroyed. It almost happened when there was the Destroyer and we barely managed to defeat him,"

They wouldn't have without Yrael's help.

"Right, full on apocalypse, then, along with everyone in it," Yamato murmurs. "Good thing you managed to stop that from happening."

"Yes, happened at the same time as the apocalypse here too. Me and my family, it took all of us with help," Sameth sags in his seat, that was a horrible couple of times.

"Right, I've heard about that," Yamato says. "How long ago was it, in your world?"

"Not very long, a few months while its been years here."
