Cassian enters with his head down, his jacket collar up to hide the anger in his face. When he hears the difference and realizes he's in Milliways he pauses before quickly making his way to the counter. As he closes the door, there's the sound of yells with the word Tie in them. Imperial pilots talk a lot and tend to ignore him if the cantina's big enough but they make Cassian want to punch something. They're so smug and sure as they destroy wherever they fly through.

At the counter, he debates what to order before heading outside to the firing range where he shoots with his small blaster until the light dies.

When the sun's gone down, he feels better able to handle a crowd and orders an ale and a bowl of soup before heading to a table with good sight lines near a wall to start on his work.

Yamato's been training with his gloves, which means it's white-haired wolf-eared hybrid Yamato who meanders over to Cassian while he's out at the firing range.

"I think the targets are dead," he says helpfully, flicking an ear.

Cassian sees Yamato coming but doesn't turn until he's finished his clip, "That's the idea."

Yamato angles one ear towards him, arching an eyebrow.

"Those targets've done nothing to you, you know."

[childofrebellion]

"Yes, but I can't shoot the ones I want to today," Later he'll be able to but not in his current mission.

[angry_friendship_wolf]

"Relatable," Yamato remarks. "So, who's pissed you off so badly?"

[childofrebellion]

"Imp pilots, they brag after raining destruction down. The only good thing about them is their bragging can be useful,"

But he still has to listen to them and not do anything, Cassian fires another two rounds.

[angry_friendship_wolf]

"That's not too surprising. Soldiers everywhere like to brag, even if what they're doing is shitty."

Doesn't make it any easier to listen to, though.

"Pilots are the worst at it. Why are you all icy and angry?"

Cassian knows he's a pilot too but he's never been a hotshot.

[angry_friendship_wolf]

Yamato flicks his ears forward, angling them towards Cassian. "Who says I'm angry? I'm just getting in some practice with this form."

Okay, Yamato's always a little angry, but only a little.

Cassian shrugged, he thought Yamato might be, "You look comfortable in it."

"I'm getting used to it. It's next to impossible to pick anything up like this, though, my hands just slice straight through stuff."

"Is it draining to be like this?"

[angry_friendship_wolf]

"Not too draining. It takes about as much energy as sustaining Gabumon's Adult form, and I can do that for a few weeks at a time if I have to." Beat. "Although I -- try not to. After a few days, it starts taking its toll."

(Pre-Bad Day post)

Phoenix is having a drink after meeting with a client, going over a few case notes.

He glances over to see Cassian.

"Hey there." He gives a nod. "Doing alright?'

Cassian looks up from his soup and nods at Phoenix, he's calmer now and shrugs, "Fine, how are you?"

"Doing alright. I just had a really weird interaction with a client."

[childofrebellion]

"What happened?" How weird is weird for Phoenix?

[take_that]

Phoenix shrugs. "Before he agreed to let me take him on as a client, he made me play poker with him."

[childofrebellion]

"Did you have to gamble with real credits?" Maybe his client wanted to take some of his money.

[take_that]

"No, just with poker chips. I didn't even win. But once the game was over, he agreed to let me take his case."

Cassian takes a sip of his drink, he can see some of the logic, a gambling card game is a good way to figure out how easy someone is to read,

"Is his case going to be difficult?"

[take_that]

"Hard to say. He's being accused of murdering his mentor. I'm going over the case file now."

"His mentor? What was he being mentored in?"

Mentor is a word that Cassian associates with universities and time and money not murderers and people who play poker.

"They were both part of a troupe of stage magicians. Pretty well, known, actually."

[childofrebellion]

"Stage magicians, when you were playing cards did he do card tricks?"
