The bar shifts, or it changed when no one was looking, and now resembles a certain cantina popular with the villainy and scum, as well as more upstanding folks. The air is dryer than usual, and a taste of grit and sand just hangs in the air. It just makes you want some blue milk doesn't it?

Has your character changed? Perhaps...who can tell? The Landlord I suppose but they aren't talking.

[ooc: HI and Welcome to a Star Wars themed All Skate, the best way to celebrate May the Fourth! Party style post. You do not have to interact with any of my characters to play.
The Rules are simple:
- This post, and any post with the subject heading ALL SKATE are open to everyone.
That means old characters, new characters, retired characters, doubles of characters, original characters, non-canon compliant characters.

Ugh, how much would Obi-Wan love to just get to... do whatever monks do all day?
(He wouldn't, not ever. Ending the war is more important. His work as a Jedi is more important.)

Light as ever: "Have you considered relocating to Tatooine?"

HE JOKES. No one would voluntarily live on Tatooine.

"I take it you are not inviting me to a lush tropical paradise." Chirrut notes wryly, as a rat scurries over with a cup of tea. "Would you like some baozi? My partner - he of the never-ending tinkering - is of the opinion I do not eat enough, and nags."

Chirrut's returning shots of how he never managed to die of starvation somehow never win Baze over. So weird.

"I think I would, thank you."

Obi-Wan doesn't even address the status of Tatooine as a tropical paradise. He's distracted by his own need to smile wryly.

"He sounds somewhat like my Padawan."

And also his Padawan. And Commander Cody. And pretty much everyone when they're not telling Obi-Wan to sleep more.

"Two plates then, if you please." Chirrut instructs the rat, half-bowing from his seat as he accepts the tea. It smells of someplace green and growing and glad of it under a life-giving sun. The sort of tea a man from a frozen moon can easily fall in love with.

"To keeping our nurses happy despite their many demands." Chirrut offers, lifting his mug.

Obi-Wan lifts his own - still steaming thanks entirely to the magic of the bar - to join the toast.

"I wasn't aware Guardians worked in pairs."

Unless 'partner' means something else here?

"It is not the usual practice." Chirrut allows, swallowing half a lifetime of aching, repeated loss, and even longer of wishing for something that just couldn't be.

"He is my friend, and somewhat self-appointed mother hen." He explains, sipping his tea. "It does not matter how many times I take him to the mat - he is still convinced I will accidentally fling myself off a cliff one of these days."

Fling himself off a cliff, throw himself into a fight with a battalion of storm troopers, walk out into the middle of a fire fight...

Oooone of those. Possibly more than one. Possibly repeatedly.

Yeeeah Obi-Wan knows that feeling.

"And how often do you fling yourself off cliffs?"

Look, he's just guessing. Based on his own experience of... well, everyone he knows.

"Never." Chirrut declares definitively, moving his mug aside as the rat returns with food. "I'll have you know it was a very graceful leap."

With a paraglider and guidance systems and everything. He was fine!

"I suppose," says Obi-Wan, "I shold be relieved that you only had one incident to refer to."

Chirrut is a model of good behaviour.

"I did not find that sort of flight an... engaging experience." Chirrut laughs, carefully pulling his plate closer, fingers delicately discovering the contours of lunch. "Though the lecture afterwards was entertaining."

Obi-Wan rubs his beard, thoughtfully.

"And did the lecture have the3 intended effect?"

"Well, the giver thinks it did, so it is nearly the same difference." Chirrut knows well enough it's not quite the same thing, but no, he's not sorry.

"I see you are a diplomat as well as a guardian and part-time cliff-hawk," Obi-Wan observes, clearly and unashamedly amused.

"If my tendency is to invite trouble, it is best I learn how to get myself out of it." Chirrut explains, unrepentant. "Or at least that's what I've been told."

"If you will invite it, I suppose."

Personally he'd prefer people diddn't invite it, but that's not exactly a skill he's mastered enough to pass on to anyone.

"If my masters could not stop me with all their training, I'm afraid it is quite impossible. As the Force wills." Chirrut intones, innocently, which in his experience never fails to earn some sort of retort from Baze.

That just gets a chuckle from Obi-Wan.

"And yourself? You've never taken on a student?"

"No... no, I have. She had a talent for staff-work, and I am poorly suited for teaching classes - too many to track." Chirrut explains, spreading his hands.

As the Force wills.

Had.

Well.

Obi-Wan's eyes - and the associated general feel, for those attuned to his presence - darken momentarily. But, that's the fact of war, and he's already partly forgotten what it's like to not be at war.

"I think you need to be a singularly talented Master to manage more than one at a time."

Like Yoda, for example.

"I have known such, but I only offer... quick tutorials to groups." Chirrut finds this immensely hilarious, though it's doubtful that Baze would.

Quick, immensely violent, deeply snarky tutorials. He's not sure they ever remember anything from them.

Obi-Wan likes his style.

"I think I'd liek to observe one of these lessons one day."

From a safe distance.

"I am at your convenience." Chirrut offers, solicitous. "Though I should probably finish lunch first. There would otherwise be such nagging."

"Oh please, be my guest," Obi-Wan laughs, gesturing at the only half-finished food between them. "I wouldn't wish to be the cause of nagging."

"Too kind." He grins, plucking another bun off of the plate. "Though, I suppose I could stop the nagging with a reminder of some of the more... stringent rituals. Pausing for lunch is positively indulgent, in that light."

He's pretty sure the comparison would not be appreciated. Still pretty funny.
