It's late afternoon when someone who really looks like he doesn't belong here saunters in from the front door. (It's probably the uniform.) There's surprise on his face at first - who isn't surprised when a bar you've never been to before shows up where your closet should be? - but the expression is soon replaced with a big smile.

There's a blue flash and he's at the bar ordering a cup of coffee, black, and then another flash and he's seated in one of the comfy armchairs by the window. Legs crossed ankle over knee, he sits back and watches the display with an odd curiosity.

This has to be it. The place the workers at the Commission only whisper about.

Number Five has finally arrived at Milliways.

Klaus snorts, because the last thing they did together was that damned breakfast before Five disappeared into the ether. After that came the slow dissolution, which for him ended on a cold rainy night when he was nineteen.

"Nope, no more missions for me." Klaus is back at the mansion because it's a hell of a lot warmer than the street, because mom still makes the best cookies, and because there's a shitton of stuff to pawn.

"... okay?" Klaus doesn't look terribly put out by the idea. "I mean, if you say so. It'd be a first."

Look, he already knows God hates him, hateful little brat that she is.

"Awww, was I still pretty?" Klaus asks, batting his eyelids. "Go on, be nice."

"Well, they say the memory is the first thing to go." Klaus declares, not knowing if 'they' say such a thing, or who the hell 'they' are even supposed to be. Sounds good, anyway.

He is a bit disappointed himself, though he has no right to be, he knows. Childhood fantasies of an adult Five coming back, rescuing the rest of them, died years ago. The rescue is now far too late, and he now knows there's no freedom to be found outside the Academy.
