John sits at one of the tables, smoking a cigarette and drinking whiskey as he contemplates the Observation Window.

Come take his mind off the end of all living things. It strikes a little too close to home.

Lucifer sits up a little straighter.

"Well, I do have an edge," he says, modestly. "On account of my, you know, talent."

John has opinions about Lucifer's talents.

"You sing to them?"

Lucifer gives him a look.

"I ask them what they truly desire. And they tell me."

"Oh, that talent. I like it when you sing better, but I suppose stripping someone down to their basest desires is more appropriate for a policing situation."

"You realize you're making it sound sleazy, right?" Lucifer says, folding his arms across his chest.

"Am I? It's only sleazy if you do sleazy things with it. But if you're doing things that benefit mankind like solving crimes, one might cal it noble instead."

He has another slip of whiskey.

"Yeah? Yeah,I guess you could call it that," Lucifer says, nodding.

"I have to tell Amanadiel the next time he comes to drag me back to Hell. He's very into that sort of thing."

"He doesn't approve of your new profession, I take it."

"He just doesn't approve of me. And my - abandoning my place."

He sounds remarkably bitter.

John looks at him with sympathy.

"Hell is doing all right without you, isn't it? I mean, the last time I was there it was ... no worse than usual."

Lucifer's smile turns somewhat tight.

"I don't give a fuck about how Hell is doing. If Dad wants a tight run so, he can bloody well go and do it himself."

"...point taken."

He smokes, then asks, "Have you given up the club for police work?"

"What Lux? No, no. I've still got Lux. The other is more of a side gig. A hustle if you will."

"That's good to hear.

"I miss Lux."

"Yeah?"

He seems pleased to hear it. All things considered.

"It's - just the way I wanted it to be."

"Lots of pretty people throwing themselves into hedonism," John says fondly. "Mm."

"Yes. That part is quite good. I wouldn't want to give up on that."

John sulks a little. "You said you never wanted to see me again, so I've stayed away even though I truly do miss that nightclub, for exactly that reason."

Lucifer looks at him.

"Well, I suppose it would be alright if you stopped by occasionally."

He lifts a finger.

"But no funny business, Constantine. Leave the sparkles at home."

"The sparkles are part of me, Luci. I can't leave them at home any more than I could leave home without my hands."

"You know what I mean. I don't want magic at Lux. It draws attention. I don't need that."

"No magic," John says with resignation, but his eyes are gleeful. Nights at Lux are great for forgetting himself and all of his mistakes, at least for a few hours.

Lucifer sips his drink. Then he adds, casually, "I mostly play on weeknights."

Just - putting it out there.

No matter their differences, he still likes listening to Lucifer sing.

"Don't expect free drinks."

It has to be said.

Also, he doesn't really know what to do with people who likes Lux, because it was good dream and now it's real.
