EP -The Second Age
The door is briefly bracken, wild and interlaced, and then a tall figure pushes through and the bracken is a door once more.
He has been here before, as a child. And he has been here before around the same time that is his present.
Celebrimbor's City has fallen and he has found himself with a force far too small to stand against the might of darkness.
The path to Eregior is barred and so they are making their way to the Misty Mountains, to regroup.
He is wearing armour and his King's colours, a dark blue cloak with silver stars, a breastplate inlaid with silver.
He stops and looks around. Then he sighs.
A little rest.
Something to eat even.
Yes.
He walks to the bar and whispers his thanks before ordering broth and clean water, as he removes his gloves, looking around.

"Where did you come from this time?" she asks. He does look very different from the last time.
no subject
"We have met before?"
Even his voice is a little different. Younger.
Hoarse.
There's been a lot of yelling.

She still isn't entirely familiar with the way time works forwards, backwards, sideways, and occasionally diagonally here, even if she can tell he's slightly different than when they'd met previous. Moreover, she can tell how he's different, and all the small changes add up to a not-unfamiliar conclusion.
"You didn't come from the valley today." It isn't a question. But she isn't entirely sure about her assumption of battle. It's better not to bring it up until she is.
no subject
They're headed for the mountains and yes, the valleys. One valley in particular. Nameless yet, but clearly calling for him. Offering sanctuary.
"I did not, no."
Slightly unnerved.
And curious.
"You know of where I am going?"
no subject
"You don't know me. But I know you."
no subject
"Such is it here. Time may pass in every direction and memories may appear later that were once not there."
He smiles a little at her, even though the smile feels a little strange on his face. Like a mask.
"But it heartens me to hear that you have met me at a time where a valley is my home. For right now, I am fleeing a terrible enemy and a safe valley is my destination."
no subject
"You live in a valley when I know you. Im...Imladris," she gets out, though the pronunciation isn't quite right. She never learned to make her words flow like Elrond does, like water around her tongue. "You said it was safe. But I don't know where it was."
no subject
And then he pauses before saying, slowly, "I do know you. I met you here when I was a child. You told me that you could read minds."
no subject
It doesn't mean she doesn't do it, but she has learned the useful skill of not talking about it.
no subject
He doesn't sound like he is trying to correct her.
And he doesn't tell her not to try and look inside his mind. But he will do his best to keep her out should she try.
Nobody needs to see what he has seen.
no subject
It's one of a long list of things she'd like to change, but that she likely won't be able to. Certainly not by the time she's old enough to consider it properly.
no subject
"My kind sometimes frighten humans. And we can be frightening."
He is a warrior.
no subject
Is she using the conversation as istrction now, and brushing againt his mind as gently as she can (which is impressively so for her age, but certainly not for his) to see how he reacts? Yes. She's only just learning the value of distraction.
no subject
Like the surface of a pool, reflecting. Still.
{he saw Celebrimbor flayed, the skin hung like a banner, moving in the breeze}.
"Don't."
He doesn't sound angry. But he does sound like he means it.
no subject
She did. She's just seen worse, unfortunately.
"You feel tired. You should rest while you're here." Sleep may not be possible, she knows this.
no subject
"I might walk outside. Later. The trees are quiet here. But calming."
no subject
She didn't exactly live near untainted nature.

He looks as if she had told him that all children had been slaughtered or all rivers turned to blow.
Shaken.
(He is not of the forests. He grew up by the Sea. But he still feels it)
no subject
Not that she can definitively say. "I don't like seeing all the stumps and splinters." She doesn't hold any dear love for forests either, but it seems a shame to clear all the trees for no reason but the ugly military bases.
no subject
A need for houses? A sudden influx of people in need of shelter?

He nods.
Slowly.
"I'm sorry," he says.
