(no subject)

Mouse in the bar. He's less disheveled than yesterday, and is wearing different clothes.

He looks around for people he knows, and also for people he'd like to know.

Obi-Wan is confused for a moment, then has another of the series of clicks he's been getting all through this discussion. "Ah yes. Val mentioned that the vids told Luke's story before Anakin's, and Luke wasn't around for the Clone Wars. If the vids start where Luke's role in events began, you'll only have heard the Clone Wars mentioned once, and not seen anything of them."

He sighs. "Briefly, the Clone Wars were a series of conflicts between the Galactic Republic and the various engines of galactic commerce — the Corporate Alliance, the Techno Union, the Trade Federation... They were called the Clone Wars because the Republic's army was mostly composed of clone troopers.

"And in the end, it turned out that the war had just been a diversion. A way for Darth Sidious, the Dark Lord of the Sith, to place himself at the head of the Republic, and to justify the security crackdowns necessary to turn the Republic into an Empire." Another sigh. "Sidious used us all, the way a dejarik grandmaster uses his pieces. And by the time we knew he was even on the board, the Republic was already checkmated." Bitter? Toward the Sidiot? What the frell ever gave you that whacked notion? He blames himself too. Plenty of blame to go around there, really.

"It was terrible for both sides. The clone troopers were nominally created as a response to the droid armies of the Trade Federation and the other Separatist conglomerates. Those armies would have set the cause of droid rights back a generation even without Sidious' notions of 'High Human Culture'. I imagine the humans in your world have a similar lack of love for the machines you fight.

"And to battle these armies, armies created to have no purpose outside combat, the clone army was created — and the only difference between them and droid armies is that the clones were organic life-forms. A hundred thousand duplicates of one bounty hunter, trained in nothing but how to follow his path. When the Senate agreed to use the clone troopers — that was when the Republic died, really."
