Bartending!

Claire steps behind the bar, Seth sleeping in a baby sling around her neck. She wipes down the bar's surface and straightens the extra glasses, smiling at Charlie playing guitar in the corner.



"What can I get you?"

"Oh, Ace." She sighs. "What happened?"

She immediately goes to work on another hot chocolate for her friend, this one with extra chocolate.

Ace sighs, to herself. She really ought to have taken acting lessons at some point.
"Nothing permanent." She hopes. "Is that Seth?"

She slides Ace's drink over to her with a small smile, not prying into her friend's business. She turns slightly so Seth's little scrunched up face is visible.

"This is him. What do you think? Good-looking little Peanut?"

"He's marvelous, Claire." She reaches a hand over the bar to trace a tiny little finger.

Seth sighs at the touch but his fingers reflexively grasp Ace's.

"Thank you." She smiles. "We should do something soon, Ace. We both need to have a good time it looks like."

Ace grins, decidedly more brightly, as Seth wraps his little fingers around one of her own.
"Yeah?" She raises an eyebrow, while doing her best not to disturb the little man who has now got her completely wrapped around his little, tiny, perfect fingers. "Got any ideas?"

Claire laughs. "Well, no, but I'll come up with something. Maybe something as simple as a picnic by the lake. I've never been out there before."

"That'd be brill. It's awfully nice out there, when the sun shines." She half shrugs. "Or, at least, it was awfully nice during the lake party. I came here right before Christmas, so I wouldn't know what it's like naturally."

"Me either." She smiles. "But I'm getting antsy being inside all the time. I'm ready to do some exploring."

Ace smirks quietly.
"You sound too much like me. This can't be good for your health."

CLaire laughs. "It's probably why were friends. Although I don't know too many people who could stay inside for three months and not need to get out at some point."

"Good lord. I'd be climbing the bloody walls if... yeah. Can't be inside too long." She smooths over the awkward pause there, and sips her cocoa. Claire makes good cocoa.

She nods. "How's Tim doing? I met him the other day, by the way."

"Yeah?" Oh, she wants details. "He's better, now that he's not being a silly bugger."

"He was nice." She grins. "And what was he doing that made hima silly bugger?"

"Wore himself out. Lost weight he really couldn't afford. Moped. Was a silly bugger." She nods.

She smiles kindly. "Ace, I think most men are. On a good day, Charlie doesn't take very good care of himself. On a bad day? Forget it."

Ace snorts.
"And they want to rule the world? They can bloody well forget it."

"They can't do any of that if we don't make sure they eat and get enough sleep." She grins.

Ace miiiiight look slightly startled and guilty at that.
"Err... right. Most definitely, oh yes." She returns the grin.

Claire smiles curiously at Ace but doesn't say anything.

Instead she asks the bar for some cookies and then smiles when they appear. "And as a friend, I should make sure that you're eating too."

"Just... haven't been hungry, is all." She looks decidedly guilty now. She does her best not to think of her conversation with Wash the night before, but might turn a little green anyway.

"Ace," she says in her best motherly tone. "I have to keep an eye on Charlie and on this little one here. I don't mind nagging you too, if I have to."

Cornered, she pulls out her amazing conversation-topic changing trick.
"Charlie? What happened to Charlie?"

Claire squints at her and sighs. "He. . .he's around. Something happened this weekend and he's not taking it very well."
