There is a Sara in the bar. Wearing green nail polish in honor of the day. She's toting a garment bag and two smaller bags. She's also just finished her first shift back at work and is feeling rather annoyed towards her supervisor.

She's hoping Barry won't be freaked by her behavior yesterday. She hadn't intended on really flirting. It's just her.

"All right, I'm a cop in everything but title and authority to take people into custody. Really pissed Brass--the cop I work with the most--off when I noticed a suspect in a bathroom before he did."

"Sorry." She ducks her head a bit. "I have become cynical when I hear things like that. Most who say such never live up to it." She smiles again. "But you apparently do."

He blushes a little. But smiles too.

"I tried. I like to think I succeeded. But even if I came up short, I never stopeed trying, even when I wanted to.

"And I must sound like a commercial for public service or something. Sorry."

"You're a damned sight more entertaining than PBS," she quips. "And sometimes all one can do is try."

ooc: Sorry-I have to leave for a couple of hours. Slowtime for me.

He smiles again. He feels good. He's still not sure he should, but he does.

"Let me get out of this thing. Be right back." And sure enough, he is, and back in costume.

Sara tilts her head. "Do you just prefer wearing your costume?"

"Sometimes. When I got here, I wore it most of the time. I wasn't comfortable yet, and didn't know if this wasn't all some kind of elaborate trap. Really. I may not be cynical but I can be paranoid sometimes.

"As I got to know people and the place, and made friends, I relaxed a lot. But this costume is part of me. And there are also other speedsters here, like my grandson, and it's sometimes easier to talk to them in costume.

"But more other than not these days, I dress in civvies."

She smiles gently. "I can see that it would be easier, sometimes." Thinking of the convention of 'furries' they had dealt with a few months earlier. It would be easier in anonymity at times. People who couldn't bear to let themselves be seen, who believed they would only be loved with their fur on.

She minutely shrugs. "I sometimes wear a jumpsuit, or hospital scrubs, depending on the circumstances. Clothes make the CSI at times."

"I always wore the same things to the office. A sports jacket, slacks, and a bowtie. Really. I guess it was s costume as much as anything else. It said 'man at work - don't disturb' as much as the lab coat."

She snorts at that. "Once Catherine and I were called to a student house to process a decomp. The guy had died just as he was getting into his tub, hot water on full. Completely bloated up. We ended up having to shuck everything but the essentials in order to work that scene. It was like a sauna in there."

"I got used to the conditions, I guess. Especially once I got my powers.

"But I can see how you'd want to do things differently. Like I've said, both I and my office were old-fashioned. Certainly never as hip as Las Vegas.

"Do they still say hip in 2005?"

"Well, we weren't going to haul him down from the second floor! Guy was over 400 pounds! We ended up calling in a crane and making the cops do it."

She laughs. "Sometimes, though you get strange looks from the local kids. I sometimes go into teen chat rooms to brush up on current lingo."

"Yipes. Wouldn't the coroner's office have a crane or something for that?

"I got strange looks when I was a teen and listened to jazz instead of rock. So I think I will keep using hip.

"And if there are any new slang words, let me know. My grandson is from about your time and I have enough trouble communicating with him as it is."

"Not necessarily on hand. And we hadn't been told the circumstances until we arrived on scene and first viewed the body." The memory causes Sara to make a face. But he still hadn't been as bad as Liquid Man.

"Mmmm. I stayed home from prom to work on physics problems. I wasn't very normal in school."

"I'll have to bring you a dictionary. But the basics are:
cool = good, awesome, good
sweet = cool
tight = sweet
bling bling = expensive i.e. jewelry or a vehicle
word = agreement.

"Confused so far?" she grins again.

"Very. How can there be a slang word for 'cool' when cool is a slang word?

"Kids." He grins broadly.

"You didn't go to your prom? Sara, even I went. OK, I didn't have a date, but that's not the point. That's unAmerican!" He's not serious, though.

She raises an eyebrow. "I hate dresses with a passion. I hate dressing up. I'm severely uncoordinated unless I'm doing ballet. And there wasn't a single guy at my school in possession of two functioning brain cells."

Jokingly, "Where were you when I needed a date?" She isn't very serious, just teasing.

He nods. He knows the feeling when it comes to brain cells.

"Probably in college, or out in the real world, working.

"I could try to travel back in time and ask you. But I'd be too old, wouldn't I?" He grins but there is something just a tiny bit serious.

"Well, now we're old enough to go the party with or without dates, and to dress up, and to not care what anyone thinks."

Please tell me this isn't another guy who has a hang-up about age. It'd be my friggin' luck though.

"I doubt Death would look kindly on you creating a paradox," she says lightly.

"I'm old enough to enjoy myself regardless of the circumstances," she agrees. "Besides, I doubt Mikey'll allow anyone to be morose at one of his gatherings."

"No, I don't think She will. But I'm friendly with her boyfriend, so maybe he can put in a good word.

"No one will be morose. I think that's for certain, Sara.

"But alas, I need to go now. See who else is eating green bagels, at least.

"If I don't see you before then, I will see you at the party. I'll be the one in the tuxedo."
