Kim comes downstairs.

She sits at the bar and orders another salad and diet soda. Healthy eating day three.

But the bar also gives her a cup of soup. Apparently, the bar thinks salad is not a good meal.

"People in the future are...well, not bad but not very clever either. Not in ways that count anyway. They lack substance and individuality. Everyone knows the same things and has the same interests. But that's a long ways off and only one possible outcome so don't worry."

Beams before helping herself to some pad sei ew. "See? You can eat better and still eat. And there is thai food in the future. If you know where to look."

Kim takes a bite of the cucumber salad. "What is some of the oddest food you've ever had?"

"Yes. After all, nothing is frozen in place or certain beyond a shadow of a doubt. The only thing constant is change."

Romana debates as mun makes shit up.

"The highland spotted frog-pigs of Niegella 19. They taste like steak dipped in moldy jello. And that wasn't by choice."

"It must give you a lot of power over the future, being able to go back and forth in time. I mean, how are you sure the place you return to is the one that you left?"

Kim makes a face. "That sounds...like really bad school food."

"Oh, I try to observe as much as I can. Although...death is something I try to help prevent. I can't help it really."

She looks thoughtful. "I'm not sure if you can. Sometimes it helps if you're travelling with someone from that point in time."

"Oh it was horrible. I would never take anyone to that planet. Ever. Especially not someone on a 'diet.'" She winks.

"I don't think I'd be able to stop myself from trying to prevent it either. I mean, I know I wouldn't. There's someone here from a week before something happens and part of me wants to tell him to try to change the future and another part of me wants to leave it alone."

Kim smiles a little. "I don't know, sounds like it would helpful for a diet, having all the food be inedible."
