*Meg wanders downstairs and into the bar, coffee mug in hand and tutu around her waist. And everyone subsequently dies of shock.*

I was worried I would get a cold, *Meg admits,* but my nose seems fine -

*She peers at him.* You were in the river too, come to that - are you all right?

*Meg never mentions the other thing if she can help it.*

Roland nods. "Fine." Pause. "Gun's fine, too."

The gun is more important.

*Meg understands this. She grins.*

Good to hear, then.

*She hesitates a long moment.* I know you tell most things to your tet -

It'd be kind of nice if they didn't hear about me - falling in the river. You know. Embarrassing story, sort of thing. Doesn't really need to be spread around.

"They know I go. That's enough."

*~~But will they always have Paris?~~

Meg nods, and can't quite keep the faint relief off her face.*

All right.

He looks at her.

"Don't do it again."

*Meg pales, almost infinitesimally.*

I don't intend to fall in the river again, *she says, carefully.*

"Someone may not always be there to pull you out. Take more care."

That's what he meant.

*Meg nods.* I know.

I'd much rather be the rescuer than the rescued.

Roland snorts.

"I got that impression."

*Meg grins at him.* Well, if you're a tiny blonde girl you have to make it clear, you know - otherwise you get people trying to protectionate you all over the place.

"You've said as much." Pause. "More than once."

Like I said, *Meg says, with the air of one Proving A Point.* Have to make it clear.

"Not to me."

Sip of coffee.

You think you get special treatment? *Meg says, with a grin.*

"If I've more sense than the others, I ought to."

A small smirk.

*Meg looks innocent.* Who says you do? Just because you're a better swimmer than some -

"When've I tried to rescue you when you didn't need it?"

*Meg bites on her lip and thinks back.*

Well.

You've given me some Dire Warnings I didn't necessarily need -

"That's not rescuing."

No, *Meg admits.* But to be actually rescued you sort of need to be in danger. Otherwise it's just being stupidly carried off.

"That's not dire warnings. And I don't believe I've ever done such."

That you have not. *Meg grins.* But very few people have, really. In most cases because I warn them beforehand.

"So why don't I get special treatment?"

Eyes glittering.

"I didn't have to be told."

It would give you, *Meg says, very primly,* a swelled head.

*Heaven forbid.*
