It's a guitarist with a baby in a booth, having tummy time.

"Oh yeah? And then what happened?"

Tiny voice speaking nonsense syllables, mostly vowels.

"You showed 'em! Tell me more."

More vowels and a little squeak.

Charlie laughs. "Aren't you clever, Peanut. And droolly. Decidedly droolly."

"Hey," Charlie says and Seth blinks his eyes sleepily, laying his head on Charlie's chest. Lifting it up and looks around is just so tiring.

"Hey", Liam says with a smile. Megan is watching Seth, enraptured as usual.

"Seth's crib was in the main room when I came in last night," Charlie says mildly. "With a baby monitor, of course. I think Claire got a little joy last night."

Liam grins. "Yeah? Well, good for her."

"Yeah . . . can't wait to weasel the name out of her, either." He grins at Liam, and then makes kissy faces at Seth.

"Oh, of course. Only right and proper, that."

"Oh, hush. I only have her well-being at heart."

"Not arguing, little brother", Liam says with a grin. Megan slips off his lap, under the table, and pops up on the other side of the booth.

Charlie cracks up at this manoeuvre. Seth just blinks.

Megan beams and proceeds to scramble up onto Charlie's bench seat.

Charlie shifts Seth to one arm and hauls Megan up. "Oh, big girl!"

Megan giggles and kneels up on the seat, for a better look at Seth.

Seth's eyes won't be able to focus for a while yet, but he looks in Megan's general direction and squeaks in Seth-speak Cousin! Girl-cousin who likes to kiss me! Yay!

Megan giggles, delighted, and reaches forward to pat his face.

Seth turns his head in the direction of the pat and waves his fists, picking up on Megan's excitement.

Charlie glances at Liam, grinning.

Liam grins back.

"Told you she'd love him to bits."

"Never doubted it for a moment. I'm just glad he likes her back."

Seth babbles Girl kid! Girl kid! Possibly. Or just Da, I've wet my drawers again! Hard to say.

"Ah, babies like anyone who likes them. Especially this one."

"He does . . ." He nuzzles Seth's head.

"How've you been?" he asks quietly, studying Charlie. "You know I'll only be next door, even when I'm looking after Chanterelle."

"I'm fine," Charlie says just as quietly. "Even slept most of the night last night.

"I'm getting pretty good at this patience thing."

"I noticed", Liam says with a nod. "But you just come knock on the door anytime, remember. I'm not gonna be far away."

"I'm okay," Charlie says gently, and makes room on his lap for Megan to sit so she can be closer to the baby. "I am, bro. Promise."

Megan does so, snuggling against Charlie as she warbles to the baby.

Liam looks at him searchingly for another long moment, then nods. "Okay, baby brother."

"I'm not going to fall apart. I've been doing a lot of talking and thinking and I'm okay. I'll manage. And I can hardly go about moping, can I? Not when the wee one needs me."
