The front door opens, and a highly distracted Doctor McCoy wanders through. Someday he's going to realize it is highly hazardous for him to wander through doors while distracted, since that always seems to land him in Milliways. He's dressed in his usual starfleet blues, with his favorite blue scrub top, munching on an apple and going over lab results from the last round of routine physicals.

...

Someone please stop him before he runs smack into the bar.

(ooc: Must disappear for 15-20 min. Sorry! Will be back!)

"Doctor McCoy, you might want to watch your step," Sara calls over. He's headed straight for one of the windows.

She smiles back, inclining her head. "Returned. I gather you weren't expecting to be back here?"

She chuckles wryly. "I think that's how the Bar likes to work."

She glances at the data padd curiously.

She wouldn't ask about the details. She was simply curious about the type of technology that composes the padd.

"My grandfather claimed until his dying day that nothing had been wrong with him until he went for a routine physical," she says with a slight grin.

"No--he was a Sidle." She grins. "Your captain doesn't like physicals?"

Even Barry, with his limited knowledge of pop culture, knows Leonard McCoy at first sight. He's glad not to be in his costume today, thinking it would be too hard to explain that. Not with what's on his mind.

"Good afternoon, Doctor. I know we haven't met, but your reputation preceeds you. I'm Barry Allen." He offers a hand to shake.

[identity profile] silverageflash.livejournal.com 2005-04-13 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've been here close to eight months now. It's home these days. There are worse places.

"And since I haven't seen you about till now, Can I assume you haven't been here that much?"

[identity profile] silverageflash.livejournal.com 2005-04-13 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"The Bar's funny that way." He pauses and steadies himself to jump into business.

"Let me ask you something. And if you say no, I understand.

"Things have been brewing here. Basically, a lot of folks here are going off soon into what can only be called a small war. There are certain to be injuries. And the Bar is woefully short of doctors and healers.

"is there any chance you can be asked to stay for a while and help us prepare a field hospital of sorts? If you can't, that's fine. I have something of a sense, from what I've heard, that your job on the ship is two jobs by itself. But we need help."

[identity profile] silverageflash.livejournal.com 2005-04-13 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'd have to look into that, but it might be to our benefit if you bring things back either way. See, most of us here are from your past, and I think that given what we face, some more advanced medical solutions might be in order.

"I do appeciate this a lot, Doctor. I've been trying to get together a list of doctors for a while, but wasn't able to find you till now. I would almost say the Bar wants you here for this." Barry smiles with gratitude and maybe a little relief.

"One question, though. Are you okay working with magically oriented healers?"

Ray looks up from where he was halfheartedly working his way through lunch and spots a familiar figure. He waves vaguely in the Doctor's direction. "Hey, doc. Good to see you again."

"Oh, I'm fine." Ray pushes his glass away. "Got a lot of stuff on my mind, that's all. Ever have somebody ask you to do something to them that you knew perfectly well was insanely dangerous for them, but that they had every reason in the world for you to do? Not therapeutically- experimentally?"

[personal profile] gone_byebye 2005-04-13 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Ray nods. "I already said I'd go through with it," he says, "but that doesn't really make looking forward to it any easier. The whole idea of testing the proton pack on a person that I know, even if he is a primarily thaumic energy being who's taken the physical form of a human, just to make sure that the streams'll work on his homicidal megalomaniacal doppelganger... well, it just doesn't sit well, you know? It still comes down to shooting at a guy that I know and knowing it could do him some serious damage or worse because there's no other way of finding out what to expect."

Sign #8 of Ray's somewhat peculiar childhood and upbringing: his failure to remember that not everybody knows the premise of what the hell he's talking about.

"It's a subset of the psychokinetic energy spectrum," Ray says. "All the way down past the stuff that human brains can normally access. Some of the wavelengths involved border on the visible parts of the electromagnetic spectrum, or at least interact with your average photons in such a way as to leave an unmistakable trace of the interaction. In layman's terms, Tim's a being of pretty close to pure magic." Ray shrugs. "Let me tell you, I am not used to firing on my friends, no matter how well-meant the whole thing is."
