Carrot opens the bathroom door and steps out.

Into Milliways.

He wasn't expecting that, but Angua had said the doors pop up all over the place.

"Apparently," the Watchman muses to himself, "they work when they're doorways going out as well as doorways going in."

Nobody tell him it's the same doorway in either direction. He might get confused again.

A hooded figure raises the shadows that conceal a face to the newcomer. The hood moves, in a nod.

Not all that unusual, he thinks. Carrot's seen stranger. It's hard to have not seen stranger, in the Watch.

"Hello," he smiles* at the hood.

* Yes, the likes of Captain Carrot can use smile as a manner of speaking. Really.

"greetings." An east european accent...

Too bad Carrot has no idea where that is. All he can do is guess.

"You're not Genuan, are you?"

"most definitely, no. I am not." A hint of something that might be humor on the voice.

"What are you, then? I'm Morporkian."

He's still smiling.

"Captain Carrot Ironfoundersson ..." Carrot stops, not sure to say 'sir' or 'ma'am' or what as he hasn't seen under the hood. "... is my name," he concludes.

"I am Serena. A scholar, and student under master Garinol."

*Because Tim is not one to resist a straight line, he has to say it.*

Technically its the same door.

"Well ..." Carrot stops and thinks about this, giving Tim a curious look. "I guess it is the same door, isn't it? Fancy that. One just figures a door labeled 'exit' won't take you in anywhere but a hallway. Since it is, after all, an exit."

*Tim thinks a moment.*

Well, no, all a door labeled exit should do is remove you from the room you're in, right?

*And yes, Tim is wearing his Security badge*

Carrot maintains complete focus on this problem for a minute or twelve.

"... that does make sense!" he finally agrees. "Because technically it is bringing me in here, but it also takes me outside the bathroom. An egress is the same as an exit, isn't it."

Then he catches on to another thing.

"Security of what?"

I thought an egress was the female form of an egret?

*Yes, Tim is just adding more confusion.*

Milliways Bar Security, Deputy Chief, at your service.

"Is it?" Carrot thinks some more. For a while. "Maybe it is. I thought an egret was an exit. Er, I mean an egress ... er ..."

He stops.

"I'm a Captain myself. Of the City Watch, Ankh-Morpork. I don't know if you know Angua von Uberwald ... ?"

*Tim arches a brow.*

that would make you Carrot then? Yes, i know her and Commander Vimes.

"Yes," he smiles some more. "That would make me Carrot. Except I actually think my parents made me Carrot first, since they named me that ..."

That last bit sinks in.

"Mister Vimes? Here?"

*Tim nods.*

The duke has shown up here on several occaisions. usually chasing a zombie.

"Constable Shoe?"

*Tim shakes his head.*

Carcer?

"What about Carcer?" Angua smiles at Carrot as she joins the conversation. "He's not back, is he?

"Good day, Sir. Timothy."

"Back?"

Carrot's lost. He just focuses on smiling at Angua, because he knows he can do that.

*Tim nods to Angua.*

I was just telling your co worker about Commander Vimes coming in chasing Carcer.

"Right," Angua nods. "We hadn't got to that."

She's removed her helmet, and now she runs a hand through her hair.

"Carcer's been in here, Carrot. A few weeks ago, when he got Putts at the Treacle Factory? Mister Vimes and he came through here in a mess of treacle. He stabbed Mister Vimes and fled. When I got out into the city I couldn't find him on time. My door opened to a different place."

"Who cleaned the floor?" is Carrot's first voiced concern, while he's also trying very hard to not be sentimental in front of people and run his hand through Angua's hair too. "Treacle is messy."

The cleaning staff.

*Tim shrugs, that should be obvious.*

"But he's not been back, since, right?" Angua asks. "He's not been threatening any patrons here?"

Nope, not at all.

"He wasn't expected, was he?"

*Tim shakes his head.*

No one is expected here.

Angua taps her foot in frustration.

"And of course with no business, even if he did turn up again..."

"... there would be problems," Carrot ventures. "A few of them."

*Tim listens.*

"Well, if there's no business, we can't arrest him, right?"

or violence.

"I meant for us," she points out. "Does Hot Pursuit hold sway in this bar?"

Sadly, no. Not unless you do it really quick.
