Not a 'hi', but a chill along spine as the hooded person pauses, watching Guppy and his book. "Quiddich... what is that?" The voice is female, low, soft and wispy, and east european accented.

He looks up, not recognising the hooded person, but feeling slightly cold.

"It's a game played on brooms. It's fascinating. Much more interesting than the games on my world."

"on... brooms?" A hint of sheer disbelief.

"Yes. As in broomsticks, not the ones you sweep with." he says with a smile.

"I'm Guppy by the way, nice to meet you."

"and there are other kinds of broomsticks?" The hood moves, indicating a tilted head. "I am Serena."

He shrugs. "I don't really know, sorry. I just borrowed the book from a friend. As far as I know there are just magic ones for flying and non magic ones for sweeping."

"flying... brooms..." The woman cant help but make a hummed sound that resembles a soft laugh. "so, it is a witches' game..."

"Yes, witches and wizards play it. They catch and throw balls in mid air, only some of them are made of lead and others fly themselves and try to kill people."

He tries not to be put off by Serena's mysteriousness.

"not it sounds much interesting, tell me more?"

"Well there's this big red ball, called a Quaffle, that players called Chasers have to throw through hoops to score ten points. Then there are two balls that try to knock people off their brooms, called Bludgers. Two players called Beaters try to knock the bludgers towards the other team. Finally there's a little tiny gold ball called the golden snitch, which a player called the Seeker has to catch. It's worth one hundred and fifty points, and the game is over when it's caught."

"and if the golden snitch is NOT caught? they keep playing ad infinitum?"

He shrugs. "Don't know, sorry. I suppose they would have to give up eventually, although it says in here that games have gone on for days. Maybe the snitch gets tired after a while."

"I see. seems interesting. but the golden snitch seems to take the point of all the rest."

"It depends on how many goals are scored. In last year's cup the losing team caught the snitch to save face."

"ah, yes... face..." She nods. "so, you play it?"

He shakes his head. "I've only just heard of it. It's not around in my world. I think only magic people can do it. I'd like to have a go though."

"only witches and wizards on brooms..." A hint of humor...

"Well I don't know. Are you a witch or wizard? Do you ride a broom?"

"a sorceress and necromancer, and no, I prefer other forms of transportation."

He isn't entirely sure what a necromancer is, but suspects it has something to do with death, so doesn't ask.

"How do you get around then?"

"horse, shapeshifting, wind-riding and magic portals."

"Well I suppose the last three of those would be much easier. No need to carry them around."

"indeed..." The hooded one nods. Guppy can feel an intense gaze...

It's a bit strange feeling a gaze but not being able to see the person's face. But he doesn't comment on the hood. For all he knows, it could be a religious thing, or hiding some sort of facial disfigurement.

"So... where are you from then? I can tell it's not where I come from."

"Prague, in central Bohemia, 1,141 AD."

"Oh, same planet then at least. Holby, in England near to Wales, 2005 AD. Is the weather good in Prague at this time of year?"

"it is summer, so, yes... warm, pleasent nights."

"It was raining in Holby. Does that a lot. It's so warm here in comparison that my seasonal body clock's getting really confused. It's still early spring back home, whereas it's more like an English summer here."

He suddenly realises he's been Bound for nearly a month.

"I see... you can come and go as you wish, then?"

He breaks eye, or the part of hood where he thinks her eyes are, contact.

"I... used to be able to. Got Bound a month ago."

An involuntary glance at the door. He then looks back up.

"How about you?"

[ooc: mun has revision to do. Next reply in about an hour.]

"I found out my portal spells still carry me home." A nod. "I am researching if it can move others as well."

"I think if I went through your portal I'd end up in the wrong world. I'd have to wait another thousand years, and if I'm outside of here I'll be aging, so I wouldn't live long enough to get back to my time. Do you have a different portal to the door?"

"I am working on that. I will let you know if it works." She nods.

He smiles. "Thanks. I hope the Bar might let me out soon on good behaviour, if my reasons for being imprisoned here are what I think they are."

"very well..." Another nod...

(and we can end it here? avoid making it endless? *s* serena might have good news in a couple days...)

"Well, nice to meet you. I've got to go now, but I'll see you around."
