First the trouble with his friend, and then the wedding in New York; Ray has had better days than this. When he returns from Warren and Isabel's wedding he heads upstairs immediately; he is not the kind of man who enjoys formal wear very much, even on the best of days. The kindest thing one can say about his outfit when he returns is that it's functional- an old bachelor-grey T-shirt of no particular markings, and a pair of loose trousers that probably came from a martial arts supply store in Chinatown or something.

He doesn't stop at the Bar this time, but goes outside to find a quiet spot somewhere in the vicinity of the lake, and just sits.

*Tim glides out from his work, taking a break.*

Long day?

"You could say that, yes," Ray says evenly without turning his head or getting up. "I saw Peter out of his room for the first time in weeks, and it turned out my alternate self told him about the movie. I don't think he was ready to hear it, and I'm worried for him. Plus, I had to wear a tuxedo again for Warren and Isabel's wedding, and spent the whole time worrying that Isabel would have the same stupid superstition about opals being unlucky as a lot of people do. Which would've made my gift a really bad idea. But that's been dealt with, so now I've just got Pete to worry about. Which means, more or less, that it is still a very long day.

How about you? Any luck with the black hole?"

*They got married today? And she didn't ask him. That bitch. Had to go and make an issue of things. He shakes his head.*

Yeh, a bit of luck. I've got a containment field ready, I'm just waiting to see a couple fo stars go, so i can more accurately predict it.

Ray smiles a bit, blissfully unaware of what's going on behind Tim's eyes. "Well, if there's one thing around here that's definitely not in short supply, it's exploding stars," he says. "I doubt it should take you very long."

*Tim nods, laying back on his board and gazing upwards.*

Yeh. Gonna be harder to keep one prepped, but it should work for rescues and such.

"Best of luck, and let me know how it works out," Ray says. "I've never even heard of a steerable black hole before, so this should be interesting."

*nods.*

Will do.

Anything i can do to help?

"Not unless you... no. No, that's not going to work. Never mind, Tim." He shrugs. "Sorry. This is something I have to work out for myself, and with Pete."

*Tim raises a brow.*

I probably can.

"No," Ray says more firmly. "No messing with heads. It doesn't count if there's been influence from outside."

*tim sighs*

All right.

Ray smiles a bit. "Thanks for the offer, though."
