"I've been here a while," she says finally. "And this will sound very strange, but what year are you from?"

Catherine tilts her head, looking at Sarah in a very nonplussed way. "I came here for a drink after Nick was--abducted... why?"

"I wanted to be sure we were from the same time." She takes a seat next to her with a sigh.

"Time is strange here--people get pulled in from many different worlds and realities. One of my closest friends here is from the year 1996. His twin brother came in from 2004--a few months after his brother's death. I just wanted to be sure is all."

After a moment, "How is Nick doing?"

"You're going to have to run that one by me again..." Thoroughly bewildered by this point, Catherine blinks and quickly shakes her head at Sarah's question. "He's fine--doing better. Grissom gave him an extended leave and now he's off to God knows where, but he says he'll be back soon." She looks wry. "I didn't know I'd miss him so much."

"Did no one give you the welcome speech?" She grins wryly. "Though if it makes you feel better, I found myself here by walking into a supply closet at the lab. I was a little surprised."

"I just walked in here--I thought this was your regular run-of-the-mill booze hole." Catherine grins back, still bemused. "What's going on here?"

Sara can't help it. She begins to laugh and gestures to a window.

"Not exactly--welcome to Milliways. The bar at the End of the Universe. It's ending outside right now."

Might as well get the first shock over and done with.

Catherine's jaw drops. She stares, and stares. "You're... come on, Sarah, you're joking... right?"

"Would I lie about something like this, Cath? As incredulous as it sounds, I am telling you the truth. That thing I said earlier, about people from different worlds and realities? It's also the truth. This is like an interdimensional hub."

"But how...?" Catherine asks weakly, her eyes wide. "This is impossible..."

She raises her hands in a 'who knows?' gesture. "I asked that and was told magic. And given some of the people I've met here, I would discount the possibility of it existing in other dimensions."

A pause. "I know its a lot to take in. The Bar is a living creature herself--and never insult her, she gets revenge--and will create any food or drink you want. No violence, sex, or business in the bar either. That means if we see a suspect or known perpetrator here, we have to leave them alone."

Catherine absorbs all this, slowly taking it in. It's not easy to have your world thrown for a backflip-triple-somersault, but her normal sense of things is starting to reassert itself. "Who are some of the people you've met?" she asks, her eyebrows still raised in a curious gesture.

"Two vampire slayers. A vampire. A small purple god of magic. Several comic book heroes--one of which I am dating--, and various other people." She smiles again. "Most here are pretty nice."

Catherine can't hold back a disbelieving grin. "Comic book superheroes? You mean Batman, Superman... for real?"

"Yep--though I don't know either of those. I'm dating Barry Allen--the Flash. Needless to say, we are from different realities." She laughs a bit. "You'll probably see people here from Star Wars or Star Trek as well."

"Unbelievable." Catherine shakes her head, still grinning. "Not much stranger than Las Vegas, mind you, but..."

She quirks a grin at Sarah. "You're dating the Flash? How's that going?"

"Snow White is married to the Big Bad Wolf--Bigby, head of Security here. I don't think my relationship is that strange in comparison."

She smiles again, a soft look on her face. "He's...wonderful. I'm not sure how else to put it. He's been a rock for me, helping me through a lot of things, including my termination from the lab, and other things that have happened here. I love him."

Catherine splutters and laughs, holding a hand to her mouth. "Oh, God... Snow White and the Big Bad Wolf? You're not kidding me, seriously?"

Her laughter fades as she spots the look on Sarah's face. This is a different side of the CSI she's known in the office; Sarah looks so in love and deliriously happy she can't help but feel her own smile coming on. "Does he do his superhero thing here, too--in the bar?"

[ooc: The true reason--I couldn't keep the balance between the lab and the bar. Officially, Ecklie told her there were budget cuts and her position was terminated. *is cruel*]

"If he has to--he's also a member of security here. And we have had some problems lately." The smile fades from her face, a more serious expression coming to the front. "Several patrons, including myself, have received threatening notes and white roses from some freak calling himself the Opera Ghost. We know who he is, now--a man named Salzella. We just have to catch him."

"Anything I can do?" Catherine's eyes turn alert and sharp, relishing the prospect of a new challenge.

"If you receive an anonymous note or white rose, let me know, immediately. Beyond that, we have little choice but wait for him to act." Nigel Crane is coming to mind--she shudders slightly.

[ooc: Oh, he was absolutely furious. Wound up in Milliways trying to find Sara and tell her it wasn't his idea. Also--I'm off to do some reviewing before my exam. I'll be back in probably 90 minutes or so.]

Ever keen-eyed, Catherine notices the slight tremor that runs through Sarah's shoulders. "Sarah?" she says softly, her eyes narrowing with concern.
