Asmodean is again reading poetry in the bar. The bar was a little slow about producing the volume labeled: The Works of Robert Browning. The bard has been sitting on the couch and reading for some time.

You should come bother him, because really... It cannot be good for his sanity to sit alone and read like that.

Iris' eyes remain closed but she still trembles, thinking of something depressing in her own life, yet to come.

The bard glanced away his voice still small, and quiet. A strange tone fills his voice, perhaps one of condemnation.

"...I would understand if you hated me."

He paused.

"If not just for the blood of my beautiful, little Di'aliz on my hands, but of the many, many others."

The sorceress slowly opens her red rimmed eyes. She looks at the man with a sad expression. "I have no right to judge you for your actions..." she replies softly. "I only weep for what you might have had."

She closes her eyes and lets her head fall to the side. "I will never get that chance</small."

Asmodean let out a slight sigh.

"None of us are given a choice, we walk the path that is laid out for us."

He paused

"If I may pry, what will you lack Iris?"

She opens her eyes again, a look of profound sadness apparent on her face. "I have to leave Milliways sometime, so my world will have peace. I have to marry someone who will never love me, so that he can bring order. I have to give up everything I am...so Fate can determine my life." she replies, a mixture of sadness and anger in her trembling voice.

Asmodean let out a slight sigh.

"I am so very sorry, Iris."

He paused, and studied her with his dark eyes.

"The Wheel weaves without remittence or mercy, and some of us have the misfortune to suffer because of it."

She looks away, her red eyes clouding.

"Not if I refuse to return..." she says quietly.

Asmodean paused, and his voice is cool and quiet.

"Fate can be defied... but only at a price, and sometimes a very high one."

"Hannibal says that there are alternate realities for every decision in life. There is another Xanth in existance where I do not exist after I come to Milliways." she answers.

Asmodean nods solemnly.

"There are. Using Portal Stones, it is possible to visit these Mirrors of the Wheel."

He paused.

"And some of these worlds are nightmare worlds."

Iris turns away, her face unreadable. "I will not be a sacrifice." she replies.

Asmodean's voice is cold. His face stony.

"Too late."
