[OOM: Castle angsts some more about being dead.]

He's certainly not as cheerful as he was this morning, but he's back in the Bar nonetheless. He had to come down for food sometime, after all.

He's still dead, and still gay, but he has decided to take a brief hiatus from worrying about it for the time being.

Bother at will.

[Summary: Castle has a rather morbid conversation about death and the latter half of Season 4 with Behrooz, and he and Gamble compare tales of how they died. He is then accosted by an eeeeevil Mercutio (slowtimed.)]

Behrooz, who is not dead or gay, but who has a very bored mun, may be able to help him stop worrying about those particular things.

So, he sits down nearby after waiting a bit for some tea and bread and doesn't notice who's sitting around him. He sees Castle in the corner of his eye, but doesn't think Castle would want to talk to him.

Since Behrooz is one of the few people Castle knows here who is not likely to interrogate him about his sexual orientation, he's further up than most on the list of people Castle doesn't mind talking to.

He raises a hand in dejected greeting, still waiting for the Bar to give him what he ordered.

Yeah, that's probably true.

Behrooz is a little surprised by the gesture. "Hi," he says in an uncertain tone. He notices Castle's waiting for his horder, and says, "Yeah, it took a bit for me to get anything, too."

"Service has been slow all day. I don't know why." He shrugs. He's not that hungry anyway; the order can wait.

He glances away, awkwardly. He's a little surprised the kid's still willing to talk to him. He makes a mental note to avoid the subject of patricide this time.

Oh, but patricide is such a fun topic! Like, say, a topic like "this is how I died" is.

"Um." He thinks this is kind of weird question coming from this guy. "... decent, I guess."

He's not sure if he should ask how Castle's been doing. Might touch on the whole being dead thing.

Castle nods. He doesn't really have a reason now to see Behrooz as anything other than a nice kid with a very unfortunate parental situation, since Behrooz doesn't outwardly seem like a terrorist. And he feels kind of bad that the kid seems to be alone in the Bar. "That's good."

Behrooz pauses to drink some of the tea, feeling kind of awkward. If this guy knows he killed his father... well, it just seems kind of strange that he's... being relatively nice to him.

"Have you... settled in a little more?" He still sounds rather uncertain.

He gives a short, humorless laugh. "About as well as it's possible to settle in around here," he says.

The only thing that weirds him out is that he'd expect a kid who shot his own father to seem a lot more unstable. But then, it had seemed pretty much like self-defense to Castle, even if it wouldn't be legally defined that way.

Oh, Behrooz is pretty unstable. Just in the way his parents were - no openly so.

In any case, he nods a little empathetically. "Well, I'm guessing you can't... get back?"

He's not positive Castle is dead, or how he died.

Castle raises an eyebrow. "Yeah. Guess that makes two of us in the death pool, too."

The beer he'd ordered from the Bar five minutes ago materializes in front of him.

Mercutio would like to swoop upon him exclaiming "Pretty!" but he did say he wouldn't. And he does have honour. A little.

So instead he says, "Good day, p-good fellow." And beams.

Castle really shouldn't have expected to be lucky enough to avoid Mercutio for three meals in a row.

"What the fuck is your problem?" he growls. But he doesn't seem about to tell Mercutio to go away.

Mercutio opens his mouth and then snaps it shut.

He appears to seriously consider the question. "You are often alone. This should not be so, in a place such as this."

He feels a bit of a warm flush at that, and doesn't know why. "Maybe I like being alone," he says, though the edge of anger is softer this time.

"Mayhap it is so." Mercutio smiles. It's not a beam or a grin or a smirk or a gleam or anything. It's just a smile. It's a rare sight.

"But you would not have said 'maybe', were it so. People who like being alone know that they like being alone. It is unmistakable."

If there's one thing he really, really hates about Milliways, it's the people in it who are way too perceptive for their own good.

"Fine, so I came down here because I didn't want to be alone up in my room. Doesn't mean I wanted to talk to you."

Though he probably could have avoided it if he'd really wanted to.
