Ray makes his way down the stairs because trying to get any sleep in lower Manhattan on July 4th is really something of a lost cause. He'll deal with that tomorrow. Right now he just wants breakfast.

Ray touches the Bar lightly and murmurs something, coming away with his usual coffee. "Yeah, I did. It's been busier than usual lately back home. Spooks don't go on vacation. On the other hand, it meant I got a riverside view of the midtown fireworks, which were really spectacular this year. The things they're doing with shaped charges these days are absolutely incredible."

"Back in the day, Iris and I would always go to the big picnic in the park. And we never had to leave early. Maybe the Rogues were secretly patriotic? Or having a barbecue at whatever safehouse they were using. Heat Wave on the grill, and Captain Cold mixing the lemonade?
"I remember the big fireworks shows in New York and Metropolis. Central wasn't so big that."++++

"Either way, I was thankful for small favors." He sips his coffee.
"These jobs you've been on - any sense that it's more than just bad timing?"

"I was remembering the bit in the film with the Twinkie representing normal activity. Figured you would still be watching for large Twinkies but also can't hurt to ask." A thought poccurs to him.
"Ray, you can come and go back home with ease now?"

He touches his leg.
"Healed up nicely, though."

"I have a few good ones. More bad than good, I'm afraid. None of us are what you would call 'Mundane.' Eight brothers, four sisters."

Peter meanwhile, just goes on casually observing the afternoon scene. Maybe he seems too casual though.

Given Ray's prior experience with such things it should come as no surprise when he takes it apart and starts looking for the message.

Unfolded, the reply reads: "Not very. Too many people to talk to, not enough time to drink."

"I know I got hammered, and shit-faced. Barely remember some of it. Vaguely recalling crawling up to my room the next morning."

He sighed, "That was an onetime deal. Gone back to my no booze at Milliways rule. Though one thing I noticed, no wonder so many of those psychics I talked to on my show were half-skunked. It's true, alcohol turns it off."
